Am I too old for a Civic Si?

I was sitting here looking at pics of the new Civic Si, drooling at its awesomeness, when a thought popped into my head. Am I too old for a car like this? My wife insists that the next car I buy will have to have four doors for any kids down the road, but I am not so sure I am ready to give up coupes.

My current car is a 1996 Ford Escort 2-door hatchback that I have owned for six years, and is my first and only car I've ever owned.

Thing is, my car goes completely against my personality. I have been obsessed with cars since I was old enough to speak. (My mom has stories of me staring out the window on trips spouting "car! car!" over and over.) Until I was about 12 my dream job was a car carrier driver, and I have a collection of Dodge Viper memorabilia containing over 500 cars. My wife does not understand my obsession. She thinks cars are just for going from point A to point B.

I know in my heart that I NEED something fun and "cool" (to myself at least) and that has power/punch in it. My budget is limited to around the $20K mark give or take a few K. The Civic Si seems to be the shoe-in for the total package of what I want in a car, but will I look like a wanna-be ricer?

Any other options? And how do I convince my wife that a Honda Accord is not gonna cut it for me?

You can do a lot better than a Civic SI. Buy a used sportscar and you'll be happier. Why settle for another econobox until you're 40? I'm sure you can get a half decade old Corvette for $20k.

a two year old is two old for that pos rice burner...i wont lie, they perform, are moderately fast, and some have decent styling, but why buy one when every stupid 16 year old wanabe is going to be trying to race you and demand you turn it into an abomination of art? if you want a sports car, but one that is actually worth the money...sti/wtx, evo, mazdaspeed6, miata, mr2, supra, cobra, VR4 (although they suck..), old porsche, 240sx, 300zx, the list goes on...please god, get anything but that overrated pos

Where can I get one of those within my stated budget of $20K?

Also, a used sports car is out, because whatever I get needs to last a while and usually used sports cars in my price range tend to have lots of miles/incur lots of maintenance.

Although, I do work from home so I guess I wouldn't be putting that many miles on a sports car.

Back to cars.com :D

Your a fool if you think the new Si is an "econobox". Its a lot of fun to drive, and utterly in a legue by itself when talking performance/reliabily to value ratio's.

First off, it is an ESCORT, which is worse than a Focus. Secondly, I bought it for $6K in 2000 and it was bought for necessity with little budget.

I'm sure I'm not the only car nut who can't afford a great car.

Eveyone who has driven the Si loves it. Drive it yourself and determine for yourself. Screw what all these haters on here say, a few ricers ruin it for all of Honda's fan base. Even all of the car magazines loved the Si, it won car of the year for a reason.

Not old on the physical sense, per se, but in terms of the average user base of a car like that. :p

The other thing is, I just started learning to drive stick shift, on my brother's tonka truck, and I was wondering, does it become second nature after consistent activity driving? It still seems really involving to the point of irritation at times, but it could just be my bro's big-ass truck.

I'm really in to cars but have only 'owned' one car also. I did graduate last year so I am saving up £££. He probably had other 'serious' things to do with his money. If 'sensible' people had their way I'd get a house, but no not me :D

I can always earn more £££ later and enjoy myself now as well saving £££.
