Am I thinking right here (use of an old Android phone)

episodic

Can't I get any 'old' android phone for sale used - not activate it as a phone - and use it like a media player on wifi? Also could I not use apps on it like endomondo, etc to track runs and bicycle rides with the built in GPS (I know the map wouldn't update till I got back into wifi).

Basically, I just want to use it like an iPod with a gps in it. . .

Thanks for making sure my devious plan will work 😛

An original HTC Incredible would work beautifully for that, as it is thin, light, and has a decent sounding speaker in it..... Can find them used well under $100 now..

I use an old LG optimus just for that. Paid $35 for it. Endomondo works great on it. Don't have to worry about breaking your good phone if you wreck mtn biking.

I've repurposed my old Evo to do these types of things. ICS runs surprisingly well on it.

You totally can. also, if you want to be a dick from time to time, install wifikill. i almost convinced a die hard iphone junkie to get an android just for that app after he saw it in use 😱

Using wifikill is a total dick move lol... ingenious app.

My Samsung Galaxy S/Vibrant is my media player now. Without the cellphone radio on the device finally gets decent battery life! It's also my alarm clock, back up eReader, etc...
