Hate 07 with a passion too.

Did an exchange migration with Carlson last summer, huge problems with users thinking they were cool enough to use outlook 07, then we had to tell them that the scheduling within the outlook calendar wasn't compatible with the 03 server. They were all like omgwtfbbq, and we were all like, not such a great idea anymore is it.

The licensing and hardware costs to upgrade were hilarious too.

I like Excel 2007, but not word. Well, I still hate excel, but I like how it offers different header/footers on the first page printed from a worksheet. Also like the expanded resources so you can have more rows/columns.

Otherwise, it seems to be just office 2003 behind a pretty mask since once you get past the pretty buttons, its the same menus.

EDIT: Oh, and still very disappointed that microsoft kept the same file system so that links between documents maintain the full path. Links still break when you move files around. You should be able to just designate /*filename so you can just keep the files in the same places relative to each other. COMMON!!

WTF. I hate using 03. When I'm in the lab at work the stupid oldass computers use 03. I purposely email myself all the data I collect in lab so I can go upstairs to my cube to use 07. That or I occupy one of the newer computers in lab and hope no one needs to use the tool that it operates. Otherwise the computers that are in my area of the lab are all crap 512mb machines with 03. Especially Excel 07. Damn, 03 is just ugly when you graph stuff.

I despised 07 and wished we could go back to 03. I got used to 07 and I like it. Go figure.

I especially had issues with this in PowerPoint! Users always had complaints about that shit. I had to tell them to keep all the files they want to use in the same folder, and it would work just fine.

Regarding the .docx document format, it's far superior in many ways, and even thought compatibility is a problem there comes a time when they need to upgrade old standards to take advantage of new technology.

Office 07 is like Vista in that nobody cares to use it and those that have it most likely got it with their new machine.

Same here... besides, you have to save everything back to 97-03 for anyone to read it so what's the point? Major lame...
That's one thing I don't understand, what's up with the docx format? Did MS have a legitimate reason to change it, or was it just a way to get users of older versions to upgrade to 2007?

Yea, so that's why they have a free update for 03 and 02, just to force people to upgrade.

Office 2007 is much better than 2003, the interface is much more intuitive if you give a chance. People are just firmly in a rut with 2003 and don't want to change. Change happens, adapt and prosper.

OpenOffice 3.0 is pretty slick though. My main complaint with it is that it loads so slow. Even on a high end system. MS Office 2003 and 2007 open nearly instantly and are very responsive. OOo on the same system stakes several seconds to open.

bigtime. everyone i know who bitches about '07 hasn't given it enough time in use. hmm, kinda like vista. i wrote 1 very short paper in office2007, and after that i was hooked. everything is laid out better and infinitely more accessible.

good job, MS

Longtime office user. I have '03 on my comuter. Every new version is annoyingly different, but '07 was over the top. I got it for free when I drove 200+ miles to attend the launch event (same way I got my prev version).

Never installed it.

I never really liked OpenOffice. It's good if you don't want to spend the money for office, but it just isn't as good. I was able to get Office 2003 from my school for $25. I could also upgrade to 2007 for the same cost, but I don't see the point. 2003 works fine on my laptop.

OpenOffice, because I have no real reason to spend the money for MS Office. That said, I prefer '03 because I'm lost in '07...but I have very limited '07 experience to compare with.

I hate how my school changed the default save on 07 to save everything in the 03 format. They did so because of the compatibility. But, everyone has 07, so I can't see the point (except for the few people who send things to their home computer to continue working on them.)

As I use the new equation editor quite a bit, it's a pita to have to be interrupted by menus asking me if I really want to do that to my pretty equations. So, of course, I change the default.

Personally, it almost makes no difference which version I use. But, because of all the math and physics equations that I type, that definitely tips the scale in favor of 07. I live being able to use shortcuts like \theta, \pi, to put in the appropriate symbols. And, I like that I can type (x+2)^2/(x-3)^3 and it will automatically format it correctly in the equation editor. In '03, I was rather handy with the shortcuts (ctrl-h to go to superscript, h as in high, etc.), but after just a week of '07, I became a fan.

That's my biggest complaint about Office 2007.

That said, I don't like Office 2007, anyway -- just because I think that the ribbon slows me down. I have to look for some things that are extremely unintuitive (wtf is up with "Page Setup"?!?), and if you have to change ribbon panes in order to access something (namely, data sort in Excel), it's an extra click which is a HUGE pain in the ass.

Yeah, I prefer 2003, though I'm using 2007.
