Am I the only person that don't care about audio quality in gaming?

i can't even believe this thread

music is an absolutely integral part of games for me

i remember the music long after i remember how to play the game

I turned the music off in xcom 2 because I dont need to hear it drumming along forever.

But yes ds:hr had great music that was used correctly. Same with stalker. If they shove it down my throat like it needs to always be there I will just shut it off.

No. Music is irritating. Stop yapping and start playing.

Music doesn't have to oppose the game, a good soundtrack really helps with immersion.
I'll post a few links to good game music, members frequenting this sub forum should instantly recognize the tunes even if it's been a decade since they heard them. IMO, each of these games was helped a great deal by their respective soundtracks:

There are/were two possible reasons that I would turn in-game music off:

1 - The music is rubbish
2 - In-game music required the CD to be spun up, causing extra noise coming from the PC and/or a delay in the level loading.

Crysis 2's soundtrack was nothing to write home about. "Wow, Hans Zimmer!!" ...but he only wrote one miserable track, and it's not even that good considering his talent. I think they just wanted to tack his name onto the box as a marketing gimmick. It reminds me how so much was made of Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean voicing characters in Oblivion, like it somehow made up for the fact that the other 90% of the voice acting was downright atrocious.

I sure hope the new Mirror's Edge game has the same composer. The music isn't really my style, but it fit so beautifully with the game that I can't imagine them being able to re-capture the same atmosphere otherwise.

There was nothing close to "atrocious" about Oblivion's voice acting. On the contrary, it was quite good.

The problem was that there were literally hundreds of voiced NPCs, and a couple dozen voice actors, leading to too many characters sounding like the guy you just talked to.
But that's not the voice talent's fault. And honestly, it was on par with (or better) than much of Skyrim's talent.
I'm willing to cut it some slack when every single NPC can be spoken to, rather than many you just walk by and they say the equivalent of "Oh hey...sup?" ...and that's all.

If its really crappy music or a competitive game then I turn it off, otherwise it stays on.

My biggest concern for the OP is the fact that he enjoys country music. Now if its older classic country then thats not so bad, but if its today's bro country trash, well then thats very disturbing. 😛

Depends on the game. GTAV I turn off the music as its pretty bad. Games like Fallout 4 I keep it on as it builds suspense in certain situations. My peeve about gaming sounds in general is AI related. I hate when I am in the middle of a key discussion with an onscreen character and some other nearby NPC starts randomly speaking to me loudly and I miss WTF I was talking about. All Bethesda games do this BTW. It's annoying.

I cant remember the last time I played a game with sounds. I mute everything so games better have subtitles or I wont play them.

I know right? To be honest I didn't really expect so many people to actually mute the music and play. This really comes as a surprise to me.

This depends, if Im playing a story based game and want the immersion, I'm crankin the sound and music from the game. If I'm griding in D3 or COD, I'm jamming to my own music.

To me music is the opposite of immersion. It's basically the difference of feeling like you are the character vs. feeling like you're watching a movie. I go with Music off/Sound on with 5.1 surround sound system.
