Am I the only person in the world that doesn't want kids?

Just doesn't appeal to me. I always thought having kids would interfere with my life. I'd have to sacrifice too much of what I want to do in life. I have no interest in the waking up in the middle of the night stuff or driving them to the school. I know I'll be flamed because I don't fall in the sheep line mentality of keeping the name going or whatever.

I know a lot of people that share your views on children. Just within the office, I can think of 4-5 people that have told me that they never want children.

It's actually not at all uncommon.

How old are you, out of curiosity? You aren't the only one, but many people change their minds about kids as they get older.

I felt the same way until my son was about 6 months old. Then I understood it. I'm not flaming; I understand. But my mind was changed later.

For the record, my son was born when I was 34 years old and he's now 12.

Well if you're still a "kid" yourself, then it's fairly typical mentality. When confronted with your own mortality, people often feel a greater desire for kids. You are not forever, but the idea is to keep humans going via genetic reproduction.

Dogs are kids that don't grow up. It depends on what you want I guess.

Dogs don't need cars, diapers, or college funds.

I can also use a pinch collar on my dog.

I'd rather my limited resources be split amongst 2.5 vs 3.5

We aren't having kids, married 4 years, together for about 11 total. We both have good careers, college educations, etc.

You'll get the people who say that it's the best thing they ever did, but they were pretty much resigned to it, so they made the best of the situation. No, traveling around the world and having nice stuff isn't the greatest way to do things either, but there are choices for everyone.

I have one on the way and while I didn't necessarily want kids I also didn't want to be that guy in the nursing home with no one to visit. Obviously there are more reasons that I ended up wanting kids, but that's one of them.

I love my dog, but she's never going to mow my lawn! Hah!

I didn't want kids for a long time, but as I got older my mind changed. I am certainly glad that I pushed back at my wife who would have started cranking out kids 5 years ago when we were 25/26 (in hindsight she is glad as well), but now I'm 30...it's time for that next big life challenge.

It's important that you recognize the sacrifice and commitment that is involved. Yes, "breeders" will mock and belittle you, but you are the better person for knowing yourself well enough to know that now (and perhaps forever) is not the right time for you.

I'm in the opposite camp. Don't really understand people who have no desire to pass on their genes. :) jk

Suffice to say I'm all about my personal freedom, and hell I'm 22. Kids can wait for at least another 8 years, but when I think about going through life and not having a full family... as much as it would free me to do whatever I just can't think of anything that would be even nearly as fulfilling. Besides, getting married and having kids is just a natural thought to me. I think about it and just go "yeah, that's gonna happen" and go on with my life. That said I don't want a shitload of kids. I'm thinking two, maybe three tops. Yes I've thought about it 8 years before it'll even be a possibility. Guess I'm just wired that way.

This... and that's only if you don't need day care. Kids are expensive in terms of money, time, and freedom. Anyone that doesn't want to or doesn't feel ready shouldn't. Nothing wrong with enjoying your life and your whole paycheck.

I can't even afford to take care of myself, there is no way I'd be able to financially have kids. That, and I don't even like them. Crying babies are worse than nails on a chalk board to me.

I get paid to post on ATOT!

You're probably right about my life being boring regardless but without kids I'll be able to buy myself more stuff to break up the boredom.

you can actually condition kids to stop crying within a month of being born. If you hear them screaming in the night, don't get up, no matter how bad it gets. Within 2 weeks the infant will stop crying at night.

That's why I said dogs are kids that don't grow up. They don't need diapers but people still put diapers on them (of varying colors and shapes and sizes).

You should be flamed for asking a moronic question instead. Literally millions of adults are childless by choice. Get off the internet and open your eyes.
