Um... Did you just say DX2 was better than DOOM 3? No matter how bad Doom 3 was or was not (and in my opinion, it was quite cool, but that's irrelevant), you simply cannot compare any even remotely playable or even semifun or cool game to the steaming, worthless, shameful, megahyped and underperforming pile of sh!t that DX2 was... I don't even consider it remotely related to the God of "role-playing FPSs" that Deus Ex is and/or was.

It's like comparing Empire Strikes Back to The Phantom Menace when speaking of DX1 vs. DX2. And when its Doom 3 vs. DX2, it's more like The Terminator 1 vs. Gigli. :p

I lost interest 3 hours into the game so I had my friend play through a few levels before I would jump back in. That's how we finished it - one of us would play for half-an-hour while the other watched, cut his nails, ate spaghetti, smoked cigarettes, made coffee etc.

Beside the fact that it scared the sh|t out of me, I got bored with it rather quickly.

Now I'm not saying it was a groundbreaking game...just that now, looking back two years later, I have fond memories.

You don't have to say it . Some people just didn't get into the game I thought it was pretty fun and a good shooter, but the fact is . The DOOM3 engine revolutionized how FPS look and "feel"...

I don't know about that, I mean Far Cry came out two months before and HL2 a similar period after. Doom 3 did the work independently, but others made major graphical strides around the same time.
and just looking at how many games are based on the engines shows us that doom3 did very little

i didn't enjoy it cause the whole game was based on "BOO!" and a monster coming out of the door. although i must say i was scared in the part where that huge bulldog thing comes at you. scary, but boring and stupid.

I wrote a huge rant on it when it came out but short version of the story I think they took all of the bad parts of the original Doom (find key to get through locked door, ammo/health hidden in stupid places under stairs and such, monsters from closets) and kept them I assume to give you that retro feel but by doing that I think they copped out. I would have much rather had them take it to the next level and show us something new (gameplay not engine) than to slap a new paint job on an old car that used to be the hottest thing out.

I enjoyed it, though it did get to be a little predictable and redundant. I got so sick of the Delta Labs after having to go through there not once, but twice. Fun game to play but in regards to games that came out around that time, I enjoyed Far Cry and HL2 far more. Not even really close actually but I had a good time with D3.

stupid flashlight scenes, where you can't see anything and just getting hit all over, definately my bad for doing it at 3 am with the lights out.....just turned it off and went to sleep.

QFMFT! I couldn't agree more. DX2 was utter crap. WTF was that guy talking about?

BTW I hated the machine gun sound for Doom3...plink plink plink!

Deus Ex 2 was a POS excuse for a sequel. I can't believe they put out that garbage, the original game was so much better and more realistic, I wish they would just run a prequel to the whole Deus Ex series and make it as indepth and awesome like the first one was.

It didn't blow me away or anything, but I enjoyed D3. HL2 is better by far IMO.

They need to hurry up and release episode 2. These damn gameplay videos are driving me up the wall in anticipation.

Hated it. After just finishing HL2 and FarCry I thought the flashlight thing was stupid.

I actually enjoyed it. Of course, the first time I played it was at 8am after i got home from work and I had been up for 30+ hours... I had my windows covered and was playing with headphones. I huddled under the first staircase I came to while being completely creeped out by the radio chatter. Only other game to mess with my head like that was System Shock 2, but it didn't need sleep deprivation to help it!

Deus Ex 2 made the main character into a weakling, made everything too shiny, contained countless thirty second loading points, lagged horribly, removed skill points, reduced the augmentation count, removed locational damage, removed keypads, dumbed down the AI, contained a fugly HUD, ruined the characters from the previous game, turned JC Denton into a communist, and changed many other things from the original game. However, despite all that, it still managed to keep a few important elements that made the original by far the best game ever created.

If DX is to DX2 as Empire Strikes Back is to The Phantom Menace, then Doom is to Doom 3 as any one LOTR movie is to another. The whole series is vastly overrated garbage.

It was pretty much crap, just run and gun. No depth, no substance, bad story, bad characters. I'm tired of the leading man/woman in video games not talking, I guess it's a tradition of some kind, but would it be so bad to give the main characters some personality? The game itself gets repetitive very quickly. Ah well, It's not the worst game i've ever played.

I liked Quake 4 better. Varying level design, different enemies, interesting guns, light, more engaging story line. yadda yadda yadda. To me Prey was a step backwards.
