Am I the only one who hates the new Office 2007 interface?

Agreed... plus the menu shortcuts still work, like alt-i-o for an equation or alt-i-p-f to insert a picture.

I usually have to use help to look up the power features though...

Oh, I have found many.

To start, you get 1 million rows... (in excel) and lots of conditional formatting. Pictures work a lot better, too, in the whole suite.

I like it too and if you are a power Excel user check out the ASAP utilities add on. A must have.

Well I will have to give it time. I don't like the color scemes and never will. If you have windows on top of each other you can't tell which frame is which. Contrast is a good thing not a bad thing.

Eh, I'm not for or against it although I do think its improved over '03 in terms of functionality. However I do hate the way it looks. Its just too flashy and reminds me of those programs they target at children that changes your cursor/system sounds/etc.

I've been using it over a year now, still hate it.

I want the option to customize my toolbars. The old one I can create as many as I want, this new one I allow only ONE.

I want my toolbar to take as little space as possible. I work in my work space, not work in the toolbar. I want my work space to be as large as possible. Not clutters with knife and scissors and etc.

This '07 tool bar isn't just large, it is gigantic and can't move it to the side either. Talk about taking away all customizations.

I have not seen anything that I can't do in the '03 version. And to make it more annoying, the compatibility is screwed by using the .docx

Yes, I love Metapad, have used it for years. Notepad replacement (I never use Wordpad), and it supports hyperlinks. Has a great automated install app now.

It's OK. It would have been better if MS provided an option for the classic interface, or some halfway point to allow people to segue into the new UI. The interface was changed so drastically that long-time users had to relearn parts of it.

Amusingly, it's easier to switch from Office 2003 to OpenOffice.org 3 than it is to switch from Office 2003 to Office 2007. The menus in O😵rg 3 are quite easy to get used to after using Office 2000 and 2003 for so long.

Hmm... lower retraining costs AND no more Office licensing fees, during a time when everyone is trying to cut IT expenses? That's gotta convince a few bean counters to make the switch.

OR they can just stay with Office 03.

OpenOffice is good for a quick run but ultimately Office 03 and 07 are more complete products. You may even argue that Office 2k is as well.

If you want templates, clipart, etc. then use Oxygen Office, which is a more complete branding of Open Office.

With everything minimised, 2K3 only has 7 pixels more leading space!

Fair enough it's not for you, but everyone is different There a ton of simple things that are much better in 2k7 like themed documents/powerpoint masters on the fly, live previews, better data filtering/sorting/formatting in excel etc, even formatting font/colours you don't have to move the mouse more than 10 pixels after highlighting text. Shortcuts from 2K3 are preserved so you can still use them at your leisure.

For those who don't like the more intuitive menu's you can always get something like this addin to give you classic menus. Compatibility is only a File > Save as 97' 2003 away. Docx was a move to be more open standard, and it reduced file sizes which is a good thing.

The hatred for Microsoft is too strong, damned if you do and damned if you don't!
