Am I the only one who hates the new Office 2007 interface?

I was wondering if I am the only one who hates the so called ribbon interface in Office 2007. I want my menus back and square easy to see edges and background colors that are solid. I don't like having a single DUMB button that gives me no options. I was recently forced to migrate from Office 2003 to 2007. I consider it a downgrade.

They're not going to change it. You have to get used to it. It is better if you think about it from a functionality perspective.

In general, it's much more logical than the massively nested menus with huge dialog boxes containing 5+ tabs. For power users, however, it takes some retraining and getting used to.

Use it for a few weeks...I hated it at first too, but it is nice not having the nested menu structure where it looks like they just kept builing menu bars on top of menu bars...

Me too! I guess those that don't like it are those stuck in the rut of yesterday's GUI. Since I never used any Office prior to 2007, it has never been a problem.

It's the same old thing . . . people like what they know and dislike what they don't.

I can't stand it. I gave it a month and then got so annoyed that I uninstalled the entire package and went back to Office 2000. 2K does everything that I need (faster and with less resource usage) AND it doesn't take longer to find menu options than it does to actually create a document.

It's not that we are stuck in the "rut of yesteryear" .. but users deserve a choice of interfaces and Microsoft should have both in there. Let the user pick which way they prefer to use. Just like, do you want Large Buttons or Small Buttons on a Toolbar. Easy to implement and would add next to nothing to the cost of an already way overpriced product.

Good point! Office 2007 does give the user a choice of color schemes, but that's all. Many other applications are adopting the MS ribbon GUI now. But - what you say is valid, and why I stay with Corel PerfectOffice - WordPerfect has always given the user a choice of toolbars, etc.

OP if you hate Office 07 you'll hate Wordpad in Windows 7, it has a Ribbon like interface and reminds me of Office 07's retarded little brother.

Adobe should make a Word Processor, I think the CS3 suite has a killer interface.

I'll stick with my office 2003 thank you. I have yet to encounter a task 2003 couldn't handle perfectly.

No, I love Outlook 2007 with the reminders and upcoming taks right on my inbox.

I don't use the rest of Office much, it just sucks supporting it.

You can download a small program called Metapad (free) .. much better than Wordpad

Hated it. Now that I've used it, I realize how much more logical and powerful it is. I love it now and find the old interface clunky, cumbersome, slow and very dated. The vast majority of keyboard shortcuts are unchanged, you can add buttons/options if you want (I have a few custom buttons right at the top, which dominates) and just hit ALT-F or something and your nasty menus are right there. Just work with it and be open minded and soon you'll see that the time they spent researching the UI and observing people's behavior actually makes sense.

Now that I'm used to it I like it better.

Whenever someone at work says they're going back to '03 (or refusing to load '07) because of the Ribbon, I write their name down and send them EVERYTHING in .docx/.xlsx etc format.

my only opposition to it is it's a resource hog. we moved to it, tho I feel we should have stayed with office 2003 sometimes. mail merges is one thing our users love about the new interface... me too since it's less calls for me, ha.
