Am I the only one who doesn't see the point in 99% of modern cellphones?

Honestly, the f*ck do I care for?

Does it ring? Yes.
Is is small enough to fit in a pocket, and big enough not to lose? Yes.
Does it get good reception and battery life? Yes.
Good. Make it as cheap as possible.

I don't care if I can't wirelessly transmit my downloaded MP3 ringtone with full-colour animated background to my closest friend via Bluetooth. If I want a PDA, I'll buy one.

I never thought a camera phone was a good idea till I got one.

Games suck yeah

[edit]
But you have to understand that all the companies are trying to make themselves shine above the rest, then the rest get the same features etc..

No I feel the same way. All I have a a simple phone... I find no need to have a bunch of extra features.

I like flip phones because the screen doesn't get scratched and it fits in my pocket better. A color screen makes people's phone numbers easier to read on your address book. I wouldn't pay extra for it, but it's nice to have.

Plus, cellphones are so cheap now (free with 2 or 3 year torture). Why not get one that takes pictures?

really give me the cell phone without the big lcd screen, without the music/sound synthesis hardware, that last twice as long per charge - i'd be very happy.

pretty soon, cell phones will be personal computers.

In general, cam phones are incredibly handy and if you're taking color pictures, you need a color screen.

Because I can't carry a camera at work. That includes cell phones. I have a feeling that a lot of companies have or will have this policy very soon.

All I want is flip phone, color screen, and bluetooth. That's it. Anyone know of a Verizon phone that offers those three features and is not a PDA or Camera phone?

Notice I didn't mention flip phones. I like those better, since when they're unfolded they're larger and get better ear-to-voice coverage area. It needs the LCD on the outside though for caller ID. As far as easier to read ... I'd prefer a nice high-contrast monochrome screen any day. :p

Oh, and contracts are for cars, not phones.

Cellphone makers need to realize that the only thing a phone needs is:
1)Talking capabilities
2) Clock
3) Alarm
4 ) Pong... not any other games. Just pong
5) vibration

the point is simple.

people are willing to buy them and it's easier to sell camerafone X. Every phone they sell goes to the bottom line and, they could be applying that to cheaper plans, or just pocketing it outright.

I have a Treo 650, but I use all the features for work, Goodlink (Exchange access), Web, games :),

Now if it just had a 20GB hd for mp3s I would be all set.

Righto. I figured out that I would save over 200 dollars the first year alone if I bought the phone outright. and then 400+ dollars per year after that.

Same here. The only reason I have upgraded my phone is because I've been a long time customer and they offered a newer phone at a nice price that was well below MSRP.

Maybe some people like to play games on their color LCD screens and download mp3 ringtones...

I personally don't need most of the options but I could see why some people might like them.

no. i'm with you on that. luckily, i have a cell phone now that doesn't have most of the gimmicks that are out there (cameras, mp3 players, etc.). its still not my ideal (don't need color, just a rugged design, excellent reception and battery life, has speakerphone, and is small), but its the best thats out there when compared to the rest.

bluetooth is handy though, especially if your pda has bluetooth and can support surfing the internet (then you can surf wirelessly anywhere if you get a data service through your cell phone service provider).
