Am I the only one who doesn't like turkey?

we cooked thanksgiving for my family yesterday. Turkey came out pretty good. wasnt all dried out. What i did learn this year is that its the gravy that makes thanksgiving for me. Turkey tastes the same no matter who cooks it, and it is pretty meh by itself. But the home made gravy is what makes it. Its a heavenly concoction of drippings, butter and flower when combined with a slab of turkey breast that becomes bliss on my tongue.

Turkey is boring, but, it's good with all the fixings.

Ham is suck, tooo salty. Ok on a sammich, but I cant see how anybody would like it plain, may as well get a salt lick...

Best meat in order:

Turkey > Chicken > Beef > Ham > Lamb > Venison > Pork > anything else > Fish
Close but the real order is this:

Beef > Chicken > Ham > Turkey > Lamb > Venison > Pork > anything else (including cow pies, rotting skunk flesh, and congealed toe jam) >>> Fish

You basically just got the turkey in the wrong spot.

Turkey on this holiday starts out okay but goes downhill...probably because it's more like Thanksgiving week for me. That's how long the leftovers last, anyway. The stuffing is worth it though.

I'm really dreading another 3 party weekend (my family, wife's family, wife's extended family). Thanksgiving is really the worst of all holidays. Three drab dry turkeys mixed with three families worth of crappy side dishes and everyone complaining that I'm not stuffing my face or taking leftovers. And all to celebrate the coming bitterly cold weather and icy roads. Thank god that my extended family is too extended to get together for a 4th party.

Why can't anyone be creative for this meal? Last year, I tried to get everyone together to minimize the number of parties. I did a regular turkey for everyone else but made a couple of fried turkey legs for myself(one with rosemary and one with garlic and spices). What was the conclusion? They weren't happy that I messed with turkey and shouldn't cook this year. 🙁

What sort of holiday hating scrooge are you? How dare you try and change up a holiday tradition that's been spoon fed to us for decades and try to do something different! Blasphemer!

Really I agree with you. Except my battle is with Christmas with my families. Each year my family is trying to outdo the last with gifts and it's some huge stressful and frustrating event trying to figure out what to buy for everyone. I've been pressured for weeks now for a "Christmas list".

Look. I'm 32. Not 8. What I need I buy. Save your money. Let's just get together, have some good food, drink some good beers/wines. And just have some fun. I've been trying to convince my family of this for 10 years now. And it's the same story. Part of it's just me being cheap and not wanting to blow a ton of money, but the main part is that it's just gotten so over the top and stressful for people.

But I'm the scrooge for suggesting it.

Bah...humbug?

Prime rib FTW!

Huh? having a roast is tradition on Xmass. or at least it has been with everyone i know

Turkey on thanksgiving
Beef on xmass
Ham on easter

Its probably more a cultural thing, since in England it is traditionally:
Turkey on Christmas (with Christmas pudding for dessert)
Ham on Boxing Day (day after Christmas)

Ham is Pork. That and turkey sucks. Why even bother with turkey when chicken is plentiful?

Lots of fail in this thread.

You don't like ham?

what are you, some kind of Maoist?

:colbert:

I just find the saltiness to be overwhelming...
Ham's great on a sammich, with at least 1 or 2 other kinds of meat, or it's great with eggs in an omelette, etc. It's wonderfull as an ingredient, but otherwise, I don't like salty things in general.

not all ham is super salty

I've never had any ham that wasn't, sure, some of the stuff is less salty than others, but it's all super salty IMO... Though I'll admit I've not tried every possible type of ham, since I don't care for it in the first place.

I don't like turkey either. But I don't say anything about it. One day a year I can survive by eating all the other stiff and quietly avoiding the turkey. It's not a big deal.

I've had whatever ham my grandma makes, as well as smoked and honey roasted, and a couple other deli styles... it's great on a sammich, but, I don't like eating it plain.

Do you like prosciutto?
On a sammich, hell yea, with a fork, on it's own, not so much...
