Am I the only one who doesn't like Crysis?

Every other shooter I've ever played, EVER, gives you the ammo of a gun just by running over it. The most complicated this set up ever gets is when you can only hold a limited number of guns at a time and have to drop one to pick up a different one.

Can someone tell me why I have to stop, look down on the ground, and press a button to pick up ammo in this game? This is ludicrous. I'm on the first level and I can't even get past that because I keep running out of ammo because I can't pick up enough or I'm getting killed because I'm constantly forced to run around looking at the ground for more ammo.

Is there an "auto pick-up" feature that I can enable somewhere? If I have to do this the whole game, then it was a waste of 40 dollars and I want my money back.

Is that it? That's your bitch?

1. You start with enough ammo in your initial rifle to get you through 2-3 levels without picking anything up.
2. There isn't any ammo for that rifle in the first level to be picked up.
3. You are probably "clip firing" into enemies an that's why you are running out.
4. Because of #3 you are going to get clowned on later levels.
5. The game behaves differently depending if you have the gun that's on the ground already. If you enabled auto-pickup you would run past a gun and switch out to a possibly lesser one.
6. Sometimes you don't want to pick up ammo (use up all three shots in that rocket launcher before you pickup the new one...you want to have a full load when you leave the vicinity
7. You can't get killed running around looking for ammo. Hint: you don't just run around or again, you'll get clowned.
8. You can finish many of the levels with your bare hands easily if you know what you're doing. Hint: you have this nifty nano-suit in your inventory that can turn invisible and crush people's throats.
9. No. You can't have your money back.

Turn off automatic and aim for the head. One clip should last you pretty much the entire level. Also ammo for your starting gun is really limited. Just pick up one of the enemy rifles and use it, you will get a clip from each person you kill plus all the ammo stashes though out the levels you should be good to go. That is unless you prefer the Im just going to hold down the trigger and hope a bullet finds a enemy strategy.

I'm actually being serious here, but I run out of ammo for that gun during my first encounter with the bad guys near the beach and they come up with a humvee and start shooting at me. I don't think I"m a terrible shot (I used to play a lot of cs) but then again maybe I just haven't gotten the hang of this game's shooting style.

Also, where in the menu is this "auto-pickup" option? Does that mean I pick up ammo automatically, or just new guns?

I've tried just pummeling people with my suit and using super strength and punching them, but they're always in groups and the ones I'm not currently punching in the face keep on shooting at me.

Maybe I'm a complete retard with this game, but I just can't even beat the first level. Any tips would be appreciated in finding more ammo.

How about you try some stealth? Hide behind some cover, creep out a bit shoot a bad guy in the head, cloak move to another hiding spot, uncloak shoot another dude in the head (they will be busy firing\checking out where the first shot came from).

Really its not that hard of a game especially in the earlier missions. The only time I ran out of ammo was in the alien ship and thats only because I didn't see (probably most) of the ammo cashes but strength setting and punching got me through the rest of the level just fine.

i don't mean to make you feel bad, but crysis is an easy game. i'm not a very good gamer and i finished it on delta without too much difficulty. if you're not able to do it by force, use stealth. cloak and take them out one by one with a bullet to the head. press x to change the fireing style from automatic to semi-automatic. it will help conserve ammo.

also, i don't understand how you can run out of ammo. in this game, you litterally fall over ammo. there was only one part in the entire game where i ran out of ammo and that was towards the end.

Gee, another crysis sucks thread...could you just post in one of the 100 other ones?

You're armored in a futuristic suit capable of mass destruction even without any firearms. Use it for chrissake.

As to you having to press a button to pick ammo, this is not the first game to employ this structure, and it is by far more realistic (the goal) than being able to carry 12 different guns, thousands of rounds of ammo, and being able to restock by running full speed over fallen ammo packs.

But if you don't like it, whatever, sell it on ebay and get something else.

Crysis was so damn easy. I actually liked the fact you had to grab ammo since it was a little bit more real (you can't just walk over a gun in RL and expect it to end up in your ammo cache)

There was always way too much ammo for me on my main rifle

Aight so being serious as well here are some tips:

1. That gun you start with has better hitting power than the rifles you pick up from the enemy. Mind you there is rarely ammo for it. Conserve it as long as you can then discard the rifle.
2. The rifles have a selector switch for semi or full-automatic. Generally you'll want to pop of the first few shots semi then switch to auto if the nearby enemies turn on you.
3. Drop only 1-2 enemies at a time then relocate. By relocate I mean stealth up, move 20-30 yards into a bush then unstealth. Enemies will rapidly surround your old location. If you don't do this you'll likely end up in a raw gunbattle which you will lose.
4. When attacking those first 1-2 guys do it from a concealed position (find a bush) and unstealth..otherwise your energy will drop to 0 during the first shot. You need energy at 100% after the first shots so you can escape/relocate.
5. Don't forget your pistols. They hit hard and are perfect for those 5 yard headshots.

Just for some examples:
Single guy: Sneak up in stealth, grab him, switch to strength mode, throw him at ground, restealth. Unless another enemy is looking directly at you this will leave you undiscovered.

Two guys: same as above, but throw 1st guy into 2nd guy, then either melee while in strength or use silenced pistols to kill them both. This will generate enough noise to get you noticed by others. Be prepared to escape/relocate.

for a group of 3 guys that are unaware of you: Sneak up, grab the first guy, throw him into the 2nd, shoot the 3rd, turn around and shoot the guy you threw that is now starting to stand up. Relocate.

For larger groups:
single shot, or tight burst headshots into the first two guys, then stealth and relocate. When they surround your original position rinse and repeat. Once the squad is all down, relocate a little bit further and wait patiently. Another squad will be coming to investigate what happened. Try to binocular tag these guys at a distance when they come.

For multiple squads that you just don't want to fool with:
Make a mess of one squad and be deliberatly noisy. Relocate bush to bush with stealth inbetween until you get about 100yrds away. Hang out for a bit and let all the squads get to your original location and go into that slowly moving search mode. Then walk or speed-run away and never see any of them again.

yet some more random stuff:
The shotguns hit HARD and unless you are at a dumb range they'll usually 1 shot.

Use the FY71 gun most of the time. It's fairly good against everything and there is tons of ammo available for it since all the enemies drop some. It becomes considerably more effective when you get a scope though (by finding a precision rifle which has one on it).

I never found the ammo to be scarce at all, but I'm an ammo hoarder in general and hardly ever run into that situation in any game. The only exception was the minigun, for which you can only carry two clips, but I only used that weapon for short periods before ditching it.

As people have said, find a good sniping spot before any big fight and just hit them long range. This game is fairly easy as long as you do that, nothing like the difficulty of Far Cry. The cloak can help but even that isn't needed. I only used it two or three times in the game.

Also, how to move (most of the time):

Stealth, move to inside a bush, unstealth and let it recharge. Rinse repeat from bush to bush.

If you need to cover a longer distance to the next bush move slower (duck, crawl) as it consumes less stealth energy when you are moving slow.

While inside a bush you are essentially invisible to the enemy.

Reading this thread explains why I didn't enjoy the game that much without cheats... I was expecting a first person shooter, not a sneak up and kill a guy or two, hide in a bush, kill a couple more guys, etc, game.

I've had the game for a couple of months now and I'm not quite half-way through it. Playing this game feels like work to me, so I can only play in small increments.

I'm hoping it will turn out lke FarCry which I hated the first time, but loved after picking it up again a year after the fact.

Crysis Warhead is supposed to be up your alley. They realized there wasn't enough action (especially if you knew how to exploit the suit) and now you get to play as Nomad's crazy ass partner Pyscho, who apparently kicks alot more ass on the island than nomad.

It's a magazine, not a clip.

It's a rifle not a gun too.

Of course this is a game thread, not a Marine corps tight sphincter contest.

It's not so much that it HAS to be a sneaking game, it's just that crysis was designed to have some level of realism (not to a one shot-you're dead degree). As a side effect it's really really difficult. Trying to run-and-gun can certainly be done but you better be really good.

There are some parts though that are going to require some special forces stealth. You can't expect to be a lone soldier trying to attack entire bases by yourself without some finesse.

Myself I digged the game. The alien stuff wasn't my favorite but it was bearable. I have the hardware to pull it off so the game looks absolutely beautiful to me. It's the game I use to show off the PC when company comes by.

Yeah this is more what I was expecting, and I've been trying to play it as such (to disastrous results). I hate finesse, it takes too much work :p

Oh yeah, and the graphics sucked.

hahahahahahahahh... troll

what kind of machine did you play it on?

Your sarcasm meter is broken. Just referencing the 500 other "Crysis sucks" threads were 5 people end up coming in and arguing about the graphics are "sub par."

I ran it on a Q6600@3.0 with an OC'd 8800GT with custom cfgs, I thought it was beautiful. :p
