I enjoy both colbert and stewart.
ATOT is a pretty weird crowd though - most of you guys don't seem to find anything funny.

most of atot are internet hipsters that don't like anything popular and there are a whole bunch who are into the whole 'nowadays everything in tv, music, and movies sucks' movement.

i dont like him now as much as i did when he was on the daily show. hes funny sometimes, but i think a lot of the time he tries too hard, ditto for stewart. i liked stewart more 3 or 4 years ago and dont watch TDS like I used to.

no, you're right, he's not that funny. Jon Stewart used to be pretty funny but he's been sucking for several years now.

Watch this and tell me Colbert isn't hilarious. To stand up in front of the most staunch conservatives and deliver such burns takes huge balls. Funniest thing I've ever seen Colbert do.

Some poor saps are all three. Sucks to be them. 😉
Threads like this expose the left-wing ideologues too.

Personally, I find Colbert to be about as funny as Larry the Cable guy. iow, not much funny. They both have their moments but are ultimately one-trick ponies. The target audience that likes their schtick swears by them though.

He's the funniest daily comedy show on television, and certainly better than the late-night shows. Nearly every sentence is a joke. He's got a great team of writers.

He's much funnier than Jon Stewart, who consistently breaks character and laughs at his own jokes, which ruins it for me. There's actually very little satire on The Daily Show, just a guy pointing out silly things and laughing at them. The Colbert Report is drenched in satire, irony, and sarcasm. It is generally only the twinkle in his eye that lets you know he's in on the joke. His ability to conduct interviews in character is impressive, especially since he makes his political points using satire, on the fly, against straight-man interviewees. Again, Jon Stewart just points out stuff that is silly, and yells a lot. Stewart is entertaining when he pwns people in person, but not funny in those contexts, just exciting.

That said, some people simply do NOT respond to satire in any form, and I guess the OP is one of them. I'd expect he doesn't like "The Office" or "Monty Python," either. OP's loss. He can watch his "Ernest goes to camp" DVD's and enjoy himself.

The difference is that Larry the Cable Guy ultimately glorifies the culture at which he pokes fun. He panders to rednecks by being a redneck. That's like a black person making black-person jokes. That is a low form of comedy.

Stephen Colbert denounces the culture at which he poke fun. He panders to liberals by being a conservative. That is a far more challenging and riskier form of comedy. Imagine a white guy who makes fun of black people by acting black all the time and you understand the challenge.

Interesting note:

Most of the people who don't like Stephen Colbert have an American Flag/Eagle or Dollar sign avatar.

Hmm.

Neither show is as funny as they used to be. I used to watch daily, but now it barely gets a chuckle out of me. I canceled my season pass on my tivo because it kept filling up with TDS and Colbert Report eps that I just wasn't watching.

Well the daily show still has hits from time to time.. I think the hour would be better filled by an hour long daily show and colbert can go back to just being a correspondent there. That way when there's something good for colbert to make fun of, hes available, but if there is nothing in the news specifically for him to lampoon, the time can be filled with the other, TDS correspondents. I still think Colbert can be funny, but it's an issue of consistency and I don't think he's consistent enough for his own 1/2 hour, 4 times a week. Maybe like 1-2 times a week, maybe less.

More Rob Cordry, more Asif, and more of the Senior Black Correspondent, whatever his name is..

And plenty more John Hodgman.

The daily show has been on fire lately, i suggest watching the march 4th episode on their website if you dont believe me. I laughed my ass off.

both are mildly funny, humor in this country has gone downhill dramatically in the past 20 years. Maybe a totally different style of comedian but Richard Pryor had more funny in his pinky than both of these dudes combined. Stephen tries to hard a lot of times, and Jon doesn't seem to try hard enough most of the time. But then again what do I know, I remember I use to crack up at Jon Lovitts in the Subway commercials.

EAT FREEEESH!

I watch colbert, tds, conan, the office, and more. Colbert consistently delivers every night. The last few weeks have been hilarious. Im guessing you are just trolling. No way john lovitts was ever as funny as colbert. Especially not in those dumb subway commercials. This reminds me of the office thread where some douche was saying how unfunny office was, then we find out what he considers good comedy.......ALF!!!. People who don't like colbert are either 40+ years of age or die hard republicans who have been hurt by his jokes.

I think Colbert is hilarious. He has a genuine smile and really feels at home in front of the camera, to the point where it no longer feels like he is even acting or reading any sort of script. He can take anything from the mundane and run with it, such as when he hurt his wrist and turned it into an empowering movement on wrist injuries. I like that he gets involved in things, like the team he sponsored or his baby eagle or the picture of himself that he tried to get into an art museum.

He is also extremely witty and likes to think on his feet in his interviews, which can make them a lot of fun or sometimes embarrassing to watch when he gets people on his show that only want to read from a script and can't handle answering a question. Some people really panic when he plays devil's advocate, but every once in awhile he gets a genuinely intelligent person on there and it's a lot of fun.

"The Word" was originally what kept me watching the show, however that aspect is no longer very important to me, as his random things are much more enjoyable.

I also love his segments like when he interviewed the spy. Absolutely hilarious.

Edit: I also love when he gets some democrat on the show that thinks just because Colbert makes fun of republicans that they are going to get some sort of free ride and he ends up tripping them up completely.

It's all about the delivery, and I personally can't stand Colbert's delivery. He's not funny.

I love The Daily Show, however.

Now that South Park sucks and Dave Chappelle is gone, there is no reason to watch Comedy Central.

So what else on tv is funny to you?

Old Simpsons, old South Park, Frasier, the Office

I don't even have a tv, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Not funny, neither is Jon Stewart.

I agree, half the shit Jon Stewart does is funny, but when it isn't, it falls harder than a lead brick. Perfect example was the bunch of highlanders running back and forth when Jon would yell "FREEEDOM" which itself was mildly stupid, augmented by the highlanders, it was amusing.

Then it became tired and frankly, kind of sad.

What? P&N's most hardcore conservative-biased hacks don't find liberal-slanted humor amusing? I am shocked!
