To put it simply, yes.

Or about the chessy way that the Nazgul dude was killed?
Ripped straight out of the book...right down to where Merry stabbed him first.
It's also one of the best moments of the movie IMO, not cheesy at all.

The battles are just a way to tell the real story, they are filler really (and really damn good filler).

Too bad you didn't like it but your in the vast minority and IMO are looking at it from a pretty shallow perspective since all you are focusing on is fighting. These "unnecessary" parts you are talking about....lemme guess, the crucial storyline parts?

Don't even THINK about comparing this to Matrix: Revolutions.

You didn't think the flaming Hobbit action made up for that?
Dude, either come out of the closet or grow up.

Read the books you moron.

Another great post. You guys that jump on the hater bandwagon are simply ridiculous. As for LOTR, I guess Im just not all that impressed. The story line could have been better, to predictable, to happy of an ending, and no big show downs between any of the main characters. Fight scenes did look extremely good though.

Are you retarded?

Actually, I was disappointed with ROTK as well.
I still think it was a good movie. But from reading all of the reviews I thought it was going to be nearly perfect.
A movie review I read said it was the best movie made in the last ten years, certainly high praise.
I loved The Two Towers and was, obviously, expecting great things from this movie.
I don't know what specifically I felt let down by or if there was any one thing.

Ok, so just out of curiosity, what movies have you seen that you enjoyed more?

cuda...no offense, but you are a moron. you cant take out the small scenes and only have epic battles. the point of this movie isnt to impress you wtih huge battles, although they are cool. the point was to follow the book pretty closely and impress upon people who arent as shallow the story of the ring. this all has to do with how the ring was created and destroyed and what happened to everything in its path. if you dont like it, then that is your opinion, but saying the movie sucked because it had too many insignificant scenes it just a waste of bandwith as that was how it was intended. the movie, books, and all games based off of both are incredible and will remain that way for a long time. if this kind of thing excites you to watch, then LOTR is undoubtedly the best. if you like only action scenes, go watch the terminator.

Dude, you're an idiot. STFU and stop posting already. I can just picture you now, reading the books, and being disappointed because the author had wrote in too many unnecessary parts of the story that leads to the climax of the book.

The movie followed the book very closely.

predictable? the good guys won, what the hell did you expect?

the ending in the book had the shire being run over by saruman and his thugs and hobbits trying to save it, which i would have liked to see in the movie instead of them just coming home and going to sea.

do read the books though, worth your time. the movie had some really awful parts thrown into it, some terrible lighting and shots...but the detail in props and such was quite good, ill enjoy the books more now i think, since my lazy imagination has been enhanced by the movies.

Although I did find the movie a little too long, it was certainly the best of the LOTR series (FOTR was very nice too). The scenes in Minas Tirith were awesome, and the whole city was so detailed and glorious that it gave an incredible sense of realism.

I wasn't disappointed at all. I thought that the movie was very good, and definitely one of the best ends to a trilogy. :)

If you would read the books and don't like them, you obviously AREN'T going to like the movie.

LOTR is an EPIC saga.. You probably just don't understand a lot of the signifigance of those "unneccessary scenes" since it's much more difficult to make you fully understand from watching the movies alone. No showdowns? What do you think it was when Aragorn led a final attack at the gates of Mordor to distract Sauron? Otherwise the orange eye would've kept them locked in place there. What about Frodo vs. Gollum at the edge of the cliff? What about Frodo vs Frodo - the internal struggle vs the power of the ring?

There's a lot more to these movies than cool fight scenes, there's a very rich detailed world. I think I know a movie you would like though, I believe it's called "Reign of Fire" or something? I dunno it's got flying dragons and crude missile and explosive weapons..

Everyone in the theater gasped when they saw Minas Tirith on screen. The movie itself caputred the emotions very well. Imagine going up against an innumerable force, or approaching the Black Gates themselves. All and all, it could have been longer to compensate for what was missing.

I was disappointed in a few things, but it was primarily my fault. I watched the trailer dozens of times, and for whatever reason I had the music during the trailer ingrained in my head for those scenes. When I actually saw the scenes in the movie they seemed somewhat anticlimactic. I just happen to love the music used in the trailer, and I didn't hear it during the movie.
