Am I the only one that thinks this defeats the purpose of gym

At my school, we're required to have 3 half credits of gym in order to graduate. We operate on the trimester system and each "tri" counts as a half credit. The most common thing to do is to take gym the first the years of HS ( one tri per year). Seeing that 9/12 "tri"s you're NOT in gym (which lasts an hour per day when you are), does this not completely undermine the whole purpose of PE?

I need clarification.

4 years of high school, right?

they have to have 1 year of gym/p.e.

3 years, they don't have gym/p.e.

kind of defeats the purpose

It's required for one year here. I think all overweight kids should be required to take PE until they go under the weight cap.
