Am I the only one that thinks the new Civic looks hideous?

I keep hearing about how Honda is back in the small car game with the new Civic, how awesome it is, but to me it looks bad. Very bad. Like, not how a car is supposed to look. Ungainly shapes everywhere. Mainly the 4-door, with its bubble-butt. The couple looks a little nicer.

Anyone else agree?

I like the look of the taillights < > and the back is okay overall. It's distinctive, at least. Aside from that it looks cobbled together from past Accord/Civic designs with their new, futuristic design language applied to bits. Toyota and Honda both have a problem with design by committee, or at least that's my impression by the cars they've been putting out the past few years.

The coupe does look decent from certain angles, but not the front.

Don't particularly like it, but I could live with the outside, it's the dash and interior that make me cringe.

Odd part of the design is the sedan looks like a hatch without the utility. Also, can't unsee:

I haven't driven one but I do like the look. Preferably in their apparently discontinued Energy Green.

If I were in the market for a cheap FWD car the hatch would be high on my list of contenders.

All of the pre-cooked pseudo performance bits add just the right amount of flavor to the rice. I'm sure the aftermarket will over season it.

I bought a Civic hatch a little more than 3 months ago. Style is subjective, but I like it. It is a great econobox - packs a decent amount of tech, it's pretty practical, and it gets good gas mileage. The 1.5 L turbo makes decent power, and the CVT isn't bad (...well for a CVT)

the new looks is growing on me. At first I thought they looked hideous. The hatch is definitely the better looking one in my books.

As an added bonus, I am finding New Civic drivers are not as aggressive lately, even signaling and driving normally. It's really strange. Maybe they are still a little shy with the new look and laying back a bit?
Or could it be the lack of V-Tech power, yo?

my 74 yr old uncle leases a 2 door. His lease on his previous one was just up and he brought home an energy green coupe..... he was embarrased by the color, but said "I really didn't have much choice". I think it is OK

To me, the new Civic is very "busy", but not quite ugly.

That's because the roofline is the exact same angle as the 1st generation Insight, a 70mpg car. It's essentially an airfoil. This is how Honda managed to get the highway fuel economy so high on the new Civic.

Maybe I'll agree when I'm 74 but for now I love the obnoxious colors that only work on cheap cars and really expensive ones.

Obnoxious colors are great. It just hard to pull the trigger. At 74 I probably would have a much easier time!

I actually really like the new civic hatch. I haven't driven one or anything, but a guy at work has a new hatch with whatever the sport package is, and it looks nice.

i keep going back and forth between ugly and acceptable. i suppose it depends on the angle.

the hatchback is very ugly though. why oh why could they have not have extended the roof and made the rear less slanted.

kammback (though, i suppose the technical people would say its not because apparently it doesn't go all the way to 50% cross sectional area before getting cut off)

i was really confused when the commercials said "hatchback coming soon," though.
