its ok to be hated, we have to defend ourselves, we have to show our strength, read your history books, weekness never got anyone anywhere
this is the right course of action

Old "habits" die "hard". Well, that is a bit "extreme" . . . but you should hear me talk . . . 😀

Anyway my whole point in this thread is Caution - Extreme Caution when dealing with extremely devious Evil. Of course, Born Again Bush might know this (and from his Daddy) . . . but Saddam has been working on his undermining his pride with the UN debacle and may lure him into overconfidence.

I wish the Coalition the very best and hope for an absolute minimum of bloodshed.

The military is well aware of how important being cautious is. You can be sure that every inch of Iraq is being watched from both aircraft and satellites. They're also not going to go barreling blindly into Baghdad without being prepared for NBC weapons.

Trap? That would be crazy, they are being attacked on three sides, pretty soon it will be four sides once our forces get to East of Baghdad.

Our forces know whats going on in advance. They see everything the Iraqis are doing or not doing.

No, saddam and the elite guard know their best chances (0 in the long run) for resistance is in an urban setting. that is why we are moving so quickly. Little real resistance to slow us down, and an effort on our part to get their quicker than they expect to catch them off guard.

Not really worried since US will still overcome any obstacles presented but I do think its odd how "easy" it is being presented as being done. We all knew Iraq cant and couldn't compete with the US and Britain but I think this is too easy and something may be up.

Does anyone suspect that Saddam may blow up his OWN city? How could anyone "see" that? The bombs (or whatever) could be already be planted years ago.

I think truthfully that the Psyops we used on Iraq really just scared the crap out of them. "Shock and Awe" really should be renamed "Sh@t my pants" because that is what I think the majority of the Iraqi army was doing when they heard we were going to drop muliple times the ordinance we used in the first war. I think this war very well may be over within a week....

never underestimate your enemy? HELLO! never underestimate the power of the US military! oh ye who have little faith...i pitty you...

Yes, but if Saddam knows he is going out he is liable to do anything since he wont be around to suffer any consequences or backlash.

The US and UK(and others) are underestimating anything. Like I said they know stuff in advance, just like they know Iraq is preparing right now to launch chemical and biological attacks(developing story at this moment).

Hi, when I say to never underestimate your enemy I do not mean to worry that he may have you outmatched.. no, not at all.. I mean he may really be insane and not give damn about anything whatsoever.

Do not doubt the absolute worst things your enemy could attempt to do.
flood the deserts
burn the oil fields
detonate a nuclear device in the center of Baghdad
unleash every liter of WMDs inside Baghdad

Some enemies are more insane than people are willing to imagine.

I am worried too. I really hope the troops (US and British) DO NOT watch CNN and that they are always on maximum alert. Every life loss is one too much 🙁

Huh?

We didn't use "shock and awe". Since there is doubt that Saddam is alive and there is no apparant resistance, it is on hold. 😛

If Saddam purposely accomplished this holding back of "shock and awe" with the leaked intellegenceand hokey video - remember that Osama has already done that - then we DO have something to worry about. 😉

If Hitler had the A-bomb he would have blown up Berlin - without hesitation - when the Allies invaded. If Saddam has an A-bomb or dirty-bomb, I do not think he will hesitate to murder millions of his own people (along with his enemies - PLUS, he becomes a martyr in the Arab world and gets to go to heaven with the 77 virgins).

You're too worried. Just sit back and enjoy the show (god knows the networks are doing their best to make it seem like a show....).
It's not like you can do anything else. *shrug*

The thing that scares me is that saddam know he has no chance for a military victory. To what lenth will he go to Gain a political advantage? My fears are that he will unleash his weapons on his own civilians and then blame us.

Im pretty sure Saddam is NOT a muslim, and isnt very religious. He might blow up his own city, however there are no plans to go into Baghdad, because we are not going to be doing urban conflict. We wont be going into Baghdad until the Republican guard surrenders. Or are killed.

Not here . . . unless carnivore is monitoring this thread and they take it seriously (doubtful).

😀

It is a "show" - "Live War". And I just hope this show isn't spoiled by the wicked desperate acts of a possibly religious but certainly fanatical madman. The entire world is watching . . . 😉

EDIT:

Im pretty sure Saddam is NOT a muslim, and isnt very religious. He might blow up his own city, however there are no plans to go into Baghdad, because we are not going to be doing urban conflict. We wont be going into Baghdad until the Republican guard surrenders. Or are killed.
He USES religon like Hitler used religion - to achieve political goals. Of COURSE he is muslim. 😛

And yes, the coalition is planning to enter Bagdad.

He is probalby muslim, but he is not religion. He portrays himself as religious, because of the fairly recent rise of fundamental islam in iraq.

But what you said makes no sense. From what I've read, the RG will be waiting for the US in Baghdad, so you guys might have to go in an kill them....

Just a terrible thought . . . is ANYONE thinking "trap"?

There is almost "euphoria" in the way the media is reporting the "uneventful walk-in" that is the Iraq War so far.

However, is the coalition being "lulled" by Saddam into a false sense of security??? After all, he may well be an evil dictaror but he is neither crazy nor stupid. He has had TWELVE long years to prepare for this invasion (we KNOW he has WoMD); he knew 2 years ago when Bush's son became President, there would be War.

It doesn't matter if all of Iraq falls easily - Bush has stated the only goal is the removal of Saddam and that IS "taking" Bagdad. Now Saddam's "goals" are much simpler - cause maximum coalition casualties and raise the arab world against the US and Israel.

Thoughts?

I was pondering the same thing whilst at work today. He seems plausibly cunning and ruthless enough to do it. If it seems too good to be true...
