I used to love the All-Star Laff Olympics, too. Every Hanna Barbera cartoon character all on one show ftw.

Most umans don't like the olympics, it was just bred into them. They have no REAL emotions for the olympics, it's just bred in by the umans who made it.

I thought it was a uman characteristic. I've lost all hope in umankind.

If the athletes were comprised entirely of Uman Thurman clones, then it might be more interesting. Also, naked.

Still, I would rather watch canine agility trials. Or a hamster run on a wheel. Or sleeping for that matter.

There are a few events that I am following closely - men's and women's triathlon and marathon are the biggies for me.

I don't even care about umankind. I have no hopes in the umans I see because I'm not even sure if they are real umans. Can you convince me these olympic atheletes (whom I don't even watch because the Olympics are pretttttttty crappy) are uman?!

I would care about a few of the events if they would focus on them for a decent amount of time but whenever I get interested they switch over and start doing some dumb backstory about an athlete I've never heard of in an event I don't care about. Less touchy-feely crap and more event coverage, plz.

It depends what else is on TV. If it's a totally dull night and I'm too lazy to change the channel, I might watch some olympics.

This is nerd central mostly populated by those who never broke a sweat in any athletic endeavor. Come on, is it a surprise some pasty geek named Linux23 couldn't give a shit about it?

lol

And being able to watch it in HD, is even better.

actually controversy is about the only thing I am interested in. wonder if they could pull it when the denizens of the hosting country seem to be so full of hate for the visitors? dunno, I could be totally wrong since I am basing my opinion through the views of western media

What I hate are the tape delay (the 24 hr tape delay from a recent Olympics was particularly annoying), the "human interest" stories in between the events, and the skipping of events where Americans won't win a medal. I.E. I hate how NBC has been airing them recently. It used to be just a sporting event. Now, it's a drama/reality TV.

With regards the "helmet" crack: From what I understand, boxing in the olympics is more about pure skill, not knocking the other guy out.

i love the boxing, wrestling and gymnastics. trouble is wrestling is usually on late at night or hnot shown.

i agree with the24 hour tape deley and the all the "human interest" bs. I even don't mind watching events US is not favored in. long as i see top talent in the sport.

I like some of the events, like track and swimming and some off-beat ones. I hate the 'stories'. I don't want to sit through 45 minutes of garbage to see 1 heat of relay qualifying. Tape delay doesnt bother me as I don't look up the results since I don't care enough to. This year will be the first for me with Tivo, so I will probably tape most things and watch the 20 minutes of content at my leisure while skipping the crap.

Oh, and figure skating and gymnastics need to go away. FS is boring and corrupt. Gymnastics is boring and corrupt. If you need a judge to tell you how you did, it's not a sport. (Plus, looking at 14 year old mannish girls in tights is REALLY disturbing)

The Olympics are a scam that allows a small clique of pastry sucking bastards to roam the world of fancy resorts, sampling the local hooker scene all at the local taxpayers' expense. The athletes are an after thought. The real purpose of the Olympics is to convince morons to bankrupt their communities through building extravagant sports and lodging facilities for which there is little indigenous demand.

American football is a lot of wasted dick waving, I won't argue that.

However, you say "NATIONALISM!" like it's a bad thing...There's NOTHING wrong with being proud of your country, in fact, IMO, it's a good thing...I AM a nationalistic bastard...hell, I've been a nationalistic, patriotic American since BEFORE the Republicans made patriotism a dirty word...

Of course, I'm also a nativist bastard as well, but that's a different argument completely!

I think nationalism can be good or bad. Unfortunately, too often it serves as a way of turning the world into "us vs them."

"Oh, you're on THAT side of the imaginary line in the dirt. That makes you inferior to me."
That sort of thing.

Countries, states, counties, townships - they strike me as little more than divisions made for purposes of logistics, a way of organizing societies, much like you organize files into hierarchies of drives, partitions, and folders.

The only major sporting events I care about are soccer events, like the World Cup.
