Am I the only one crazy enough to run a beta os and beta software on my primary computer?

I've been using Vista as my sole operating system since RC1 was released and have not once seen a blue screen with build 5600 or 5728. Sure I've seen a few bugs but it's been rock solid as far as stability goes.

I am also using the beta catalyst video drivers, since that's all that's available at this point. And I am using Firefox 2.0 RC1 (which is great btw) and Java 6 Beta 2. Also no problems with either.

Am I completely insane for running beta software on my main rig? My rig has been as reliable as it was with XP Pro. I really love Vista's media center and how it's integrated with the OS, so much so that I'll probably upgrade to the final version once my beta expires.

You are not a fool - I just installed Vista - I cant believe I waited this long - it's beautiful! Would you reccomend me downloading Spybot or is Windows good enough? Also is Windows Mail better then Thunderbird now?

When I ran betas, I did it on my primary comp, but with a dual boot system. If it failed, I could always reboot into my good OS.

@shawn: if you do major important production work I wouldn't agree with your decision at all.

I did for a while, then I got bored with it, and some of my faves wouldn't work, so I went back to XP till Vista is done. I liked it, and used it on my prime rig.

I just use Windows Defender. I haven't bothered trying to install antivirus software. I doubt vista is all that vulnerable at this point with all the improvements they've made. I'm sure they will start popping up though once vista goes mainstream though.

edit: I haven't even tried windows mail. i think i'll just stick with thunderbird.

Seconded  But I must admit since Vista RC1 is up and all relevant Apps are running, I never touched the XP partition again.
Best thing is MS will run roadshows here in Germany in Nov/Dec. You can participate for around 240 bucks and get Vista Ultimate, Office 2007 Pro and tons of other stuff as "giveaway" :D plus lunch and presentations :D :D

KEYWORD: NO

NOTE: OPTIONAL_BOOT OS selection

P.S. one day hard drives may or may not exist with rotary devices. flash memory may dominate, and Intel's Trigate motherboard technology will make AMD beg on their knees to make IBM establish a standard to share the motherboard technology like how processor standards were implemented in early designs.

so I want to add, that if Intel comes out with a 3D motherboard first, AMD will be crying harder than the time when conroe hit the market this past summer.

I unistalled Ubuntu 6.0x to run Vista - it has been running great for me since the first build of RC1. I cannot wait till the final release of it and the new version of MS Office.

I want Vista Ultimate and Office 2007.

Mmm. One thing that pisses me off though -- I'm going to be installing XP Pro 64-bit on my computer in the next few days, since I don't have Vista, and don't want to have to deal with installing all the same programs again.

Ive been in this beta for 9 months now.. and run all but the last 2 builds with an XP partition too.. now its so stable I run it by itself.. and I also run FF 2.0 but all my devices are Nvidia which has good beta drivers...
CoH is Vista ready runs flawless and even has the windows perfomance rating done.. and puts itself in the games menu..

DoW works very well too as does WoW and GW-F Ive had no issues with any legacy games and the OS seems pretty ready to go..

just need a better Antivirus and id be happy with Rc1.. btw RC2 is due today..

With all the patches nowadays, even a finished product may as well be called a beta.

I run Vista RC1 on my laptop and my laptop, for all intents and purposes, is my main rig anymore. Runs great
