Am I the only one bummed that HBO's "Luck" is cancelled?

Blame HBO for promoting it poorly.

Bad/weak promotions lead to eventual axing of shows.

I couldn't get into it. Watched the first couple episodes, it just didn't grab me. It doesn't help that they were basically speaking a foreign language; if you don't know anything about horse racing, that show is gibberish.

It's not a fast-moving show and it does take a few eps to start to understand "horse culture" (which is completely strange, btw).

Yeah, I thought it was quite good, and the season finale was outstanding. I would have liked to see it continue, but it was a bit of an acquired taste and I can see why HBO ditched it. I find it interesting that people continue to watch Boardwalk Empire (which I consider rather dull) but couldn't get into Luck, but then again they are very different kinds of shows.

Luck doesn't have a lot of "gotcha" moments, it's more like a slow burn over several eps.

Boardwalk Empire is one of the best shows on TV

Luck was nothing special, I ditched it before the first ep was even over

I enjoyed it, but it clearly was a little too "inside" to get much of an audience. The horse track culture is so alien that most people won't understand it right off and won't care about trying to get into it.

Nope, enjoyed it and thought they had some real solid characters. Especially liked the building feud between Ace and Michael. But between the track talk, horse deaths with mounting pressure from PETA, Nick Nolte's low-gravel-just-about-near-mumbling and Ortiz's heavy accent (which neither bothered me in the least but I could imagine turning others away) and HBO's promoting (or lack thereof) it was doomed from the start. But man the way they shot the racing scenes, especially the season/series finale, was awesome. If anything I'm glad it finished in a satisfactory way and not really leaving various cliff hangers.

Rumor has it though Mann/Milch are debating whether to release episode one of the the second season which has already been filmed. Perhaps as a special feature on the DVD/Blu-Ray??

I liked it, but since it didn't get a long enough run, in the end I wont miss it.

Exactly the same thing happened to Terriers on FX. Great show, shit advertising, odd plot development = death. Sucks, really liked that show toward the middle/end.

Yeah same here and yet nobody knew the show even existed for the most part.

I had to look this up as I'd never even heard of it.

A show about horse racing and gambling is even less interesting to me than a show about playing cards. Which is to say I want to watch it about as much as I want to watch a show about rich guys racing yachts.

I could tell there was something moving around under the covers but it didn't tease or reveal itself enough to catch my interest. Very hard show to get into, if in fact some people did.

The writing on the show was awful. I couldn't care about any of the characters as they had NO redeeming qualities, and there were too many groups of characters that had little to nothing going on, and little interaction between them, to keep you engaged in their story lines. There was nothing to follow from episode to episode as the story was so slow to develop, I really couldn't care what any of them were up to.

The shots of Santa Anita were nice, the horses not so much (they looked like 5th rank thoroughbreds which is typical), and the acting was sometimes very good, other times awful. All in all, I'm surprised they renewed it for a second season in the first place.

This is a thread about the show being canceled. I'm telling you I didn't even know it existed and that the idea was unappealing to me. Apparently my feelings are shared by others since it was shitcanned.
