You mean like neffing on an internet forum?

Perhaps, but at least I'm directly involved here. To devote that much time to something which is a game and that you have no control or influence over whatsoever just seems strange. That and I find the salaries professional athletes get paid to be obscene.
Internet forums and chat are interactive, viewing sports is passive. That ain't rocket science, but apparently it's too deep for some!

I'm confused - are you insulting me or agreeing with me?

Edit: I don't really give a rat's @ss either way, just curious. :)

I think he (and you too) took my comment WAY too serious and he was making an unsuccessful attempt to insult me. :)

I personally am into fitness and did crosscountry throughout highschool.. but then again they're not *team* sports.

What Am I interested in? Music, Night life, movies (big movie fan) etc.. But not sports. Anyone else in the same boat?

[EDIT]
Thank You.

Join the crowd. A lot of people couldn't care less about sports other than the "playoffs", world series or super bowl.

Sorry Maggotry, but that reminds me of my wife bitching about my sons and I being online too much, all the while she's watching crap like "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?"

Do you ever read books or watch movies? You don't have any control of influence over those either right?

I love playing sports. But since it seems to be so hard for me to find anyone else who likes to be even remotely competitive, I satisfy myself sometimes by watching them on TV. I love tennis, soccer, football, basketball, raquetball, palmball, baseball, kickball, hockey, and probably any other sport invented. Why? Because it's man against man, find out who has the true grit when the chips are down. Competition at it's best.

i find those that follow sports closely enough to memorize all the names and do research out of the blue when it is NOT their job to be idiots.

Tell me whatever it is that you spend any amount of time on, and I will say the same about you. Your interests or hobbies aren't inherently more valuable than mine. In fact, the most value comes when the person does what he/she wants, regardless of what other idiots like you think.

I'm not talking about simply watching sports necessarily. I'm talking about people who spend huge amounts of time memorizing statistics, keeping track of who's injured, etc. That's just seems odd to me, especially because it doesn't directly involve the person. I'm not really judging those who do that, I'm just saying it's not for me. Honestly, I could care less what other people do. :)

I personally love sports, almost all of them. I don't follow them all day-to-day, but when I find a good game or Sporterscenter on, I'll watch it. College football is always a blast, or watching my Dallas Mavs or Stars dish it out downtown.. heck yeah.

I do understand that sports just don't appeal to some people - but recently I've come into contact with a number of fellows who despise sports so much that they feel it necessary to actively make that clear to everyone around. They just need to chill the hell out, just because you got cut from 8th grade football doesn't mean you have to proclaim your hatred of sports everywhere you go.

My mom doesn't do exactly the same stuff (she's not really much into watching TV), but I get exactly the same kind of ironic complaints all the time.

To get back on topic - no, you're not the only guy not into sports. I couldn't care less about watching sports, and am not good at playing any of them either. It's not that good for my health, and I'm trying to play more basketball lately (just practicing on my own since I'm way too bad to play with others).

It is just what they're interested in. Although not directly involved like you said, it might just be a hobby to them.
Some people like to mod their case to get .001 Mhz more performance, or mod their car to shave tenths of seconds off their 1/4 mile time.
Whatever floats their boat is cool with me. :)

I know at least one guy like that. He makes money on sports via gambling and fantasy leagues. He earns it with all the study, but loves doing it, so that addiction pays off for him to some extent.

Ditto.

I know a couple of people like that. Damn walking stats book on every player in every sport. But you know what? They love it. :) It makes them happy. So what's the problem?

If you don't like to watch sports...that's cool. But why knock the people who do?

dood, you are at a geek forum...this is a dumb question....

Troll, since you are so brilliant, maybe you'd realize that when you are at a game with 80,000 other people who are yelling and screaming, you are actively involved in the sport. Ask the players who are trying to hear a play that is being called if there is any interaction......

That is the question that is being asked....He is asking if he is the only person who does not like sports. I stated that it is a dumb question because there are going to be plenty people here that are not into sports...

no, I find most sports worthless. One of my first post was an anti-football rant, where it esclated into a flamewar, which eventually got locked.

I can't stand most sports and I don't find any enjoyment in them.

beats the hell out of me why so many people do. but then again. I'm a Geek.

Played ALL sports growing up. By the time high school rolled around, I was done with it. Don't know why... don't really care!

Amen Brother!

I lived in a state where 2/3rds of all of the conversation started were "so did you see the (enter sport here, this state had a pro football basket ball and baseball team) the other night?"
I had been threatend because I once told someone that I didn't like football, I thought it was a wortheless pointless sport. and he threatened to "beat my ass"

Whent he public television stations run Ads that say "Be a fan, don't be a fanatic" There is a problem
when the local team loses, and a fight breaks out in the parking lot. There is a problem, when people have a hard time NOT discussion the current sport seasons. or bringing it up once atleast every several hours. There is a problem. it is an obession for most of the "fans" I know. it's revoltingly disgusting.

Yep, it's sad. Actually, I don't get it, or get into it one way or the other. We just finished the youth league's football season this afternoon. The coach came up to thank me for supplying him with game tapes all season. He doesn't talk to me much, because I don't talk "shop" about plays to use or technics or drills etc. After he said thanks, I told him how much I appreciated what he does for the kids and all. Then awkward silence... talk about making highlight tape, then more awkward silence... "Well, let's get some more food at the concession stand," he said. I reply, "Good idea!" <whew> Conversation over! :p
