One of my greatest memories is running through Doom II with my friends...co-op.

Gosh...was that the Kali system back then? I had no gamer friends, so I missed out on that. :(

I'm actually interested in what the developers who license this engine will do with it.

There are few games, that actually -- using sound and graphics... scare the fvcking sh!t out of you. I remember it most vividly in Quake1, with the NIN soundtrack... the sound made the game so much more fun to play because you'd turn and see a monster, and be like HOLY SH!T, and jump back a second.... man that kicks ass :)

HL2 should be good too, but I have more hope for Doom3 right now, than HL2, since I was never a big CS player. I got into it late and realized that 90% of the people cheated, so it was no longer fun to play.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "Kali" system.

Anyway, that's what started my LAN gaming days. Moved on from there to Warcraft II.

It has been so long since I played a Doom game that I really don't care.

The same can be said for that supposed Duke Nuke'Em game that will be out in the year 2150.

My reasons for having any interest in Doom 3

1. My computer sucks (1.2GHz Athlon)
2. My video card sucks (TNT Ultra)
3. I have no desires to become addicted to another game.

Don't know what Kali is? Bah what kind of old-school gamer are you? ;)

I didn't know of the 4 player max MP in D3 though. Pfft! Weak!

lets clear up a few things:

Doom 3 multiplayer is NOT limited to 4 players

Rocket Arena will almost certainly be ported to the Doom3 engine - any lacking multiplayer issues with the out-of-the box package are likely to be remedied by this and a host of other multiplayer mods

Anyone who is a fan of FPS games in the least should be excited about this game - this is likely the biggest leap forward since Quake 1 - id has gone way above and beyond their previous games in an effort to produce a good game, not just a graphics engine - they hired writers for the story, they hired programmers to work on nothing but the sounds (all in glorious 5.1 btw), and they have been fine tuning it for more than a year.

Those of you that say you have a TNT card, and that is why you aren't interested - well then you aren't really an avid gaming fan anyway.

If Halo on the Xbox is the only FPS you have ever played - then you have no idea what you have missed out on.

Why are we talking about Duke 3d vs Doom? Although this game shares the Doom name, and many of the original Doom enemies will be present, the gameplay is nothing like the old Doom games.

Personally, I can't wait - bring on HL2 as well, and Stalker, and the COD expansion pack, and the next Medal of Honor game, and Brothers in Arms....bring em all on! I need to finish Painkeep before Aug 5th!

It was a nausiating experience for me. Duke 3D had better graphics than Doom 1 and 2 :frown:

As someone already pointed out: The Doom engine was developed before Duke 3D ever came out. Not to mention Duke 3D sucked ass compared to Doom. :p

Doom was the first 3D shooter with any sory of realism. Wolf3D was probably THE first 3D shooter, but it was basically like a 2D game in a 3D maze. Duke3D had the best deathmatch EVER :) Trip mines, jet packs, shrink rays....it was crazy!

While I agree FPS games are so played out it's not funny -- Doom3 is a whole other story.

1) It's Doom!
2) It's more of a FPS + Survival Horror
3) It actually has a story this time
4) Great graphics
5) Great graphics

Your poll is as weak as Gabe Newell's project management skills.

I'm looking forward to Doom3, but "Yes, I can't get enough FPS" implies that I play them all indiscriminately and that Doom3 will just be more of the same.

I actually play very few FPS, and I'm hoping D3 will be superior to most others.

Counter-strike uses an ancient engine

True but the engine has been tweaked and refined over the countless years of patching and the visuals have benefited from it a good deal. It's not like counter strike looks like half life did right out of the box when it hit the shelves. Then again I am probably the only one here that couldn't care less about HL2 or CS on source so I can see how it could be possible to not be looking forward to DOOM III.
