Am I safe now?

Well, I clicked on a bad link on a website and it gave me a trojan. It is the one where it says "You have a security problem" and every so often it pops up im my screen saying, "you have a virus problem want to scan now?"


I immediatly went to spyware doctor to scan. it found 202 infections, around 150 of them being "medium concern" or "high concern" items and it deleted them.



I will be letting spyware doctor run its backround program to block stuff for a while.


Now my question is, should I go to safe mode and run the scan again, and should I also do an antivir scan.


also, do you think it is safe enough to start going to personal sites again?

I just saved my entire history in a file and uploaded it to filefront.

idk what it was, all I know is my computer blocked access of it a couple times including a web site. I havent had any pop ups yet of blockage, so I hope its out now

Cleaning a machine out after infection is almost always an inexact science.

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable if someone asked me to clean that machine out for them unless I reformatted and reinstalled.

FWIW though, download and run hijack this and post the results. Safe mode is useless in this case - just boot normally. Let your virus software try to clean this up. Download an run Malicious Software Removal Tool.

I would at the very least also run superantispyware and malwarebytes both free and very good, a hijackthis log is also needed to see if any thing else is up. you could try posting the hijackthis log at virtualdr just be sure you read the rules sticky first

sadly this is true, but reformatting isnt an easy option, I have too much on this computer

On first look I don't see anything real bad there are a few entrys that could be cleaned up but nothing malicious that I see. Try posting at virtualdr and get one of the experts there to have a look. you can also upload it to here but don't remove anything unless you understand it it will show a few things as nasty that are not check out the user ratings before you decide.

Just so you're aware of the option: non-Admin user accounts are a great security enhancement, and there's some others listed there too.
