Isn't there a filter in the front of the washing machine? Check the bottom, you probably need to inspect that filter to make sure there isn't any gunk in there... The only other thing I can think of is perhaps you've got some hard water or something. Then again, the machine could be a POS but I'd check the first two things I mentioned first.

Having had two front loaders, I think there's something wrong with your machine (wouldn't be surprised given it's an LG...should have bought a Samsung or Whirlpool) or your water sucks or you're using too much detergent or a crappy brand of detergent.

I've had our Whirlpool Duet front loader clean grease and oil off jeans after working/pulling greasy engine parts out of a junk yard vehicle that I was sure were going to have to be thrown out or relegated to becoming rags.

Ditto on the grease. Every 6 months or so I run 2-3 full loads of greasy and oil garage rags through the wash load. I run them a few times to also clean out the drum so there are no traces of grease/oil left anywhere, but the rags (old shirts, towels, etc) all come out good enough to use again.

I too have to believe it's something to do with the settings. I would never expect communal/laundromat machines to be "awesome". I'm convinced the machines in our building are responsible for the small holes that many of my shirts have. I'm also relieved to not have to deal with that crap anymore. We just bought an LG washer/dryer set for the house. Used it for the first time last weekend and all is well. I almost always use the extra rinse feature but I don't do the quick cycles. I'm not in a rush.

Is there a sink in the laundry room? Maybe you can pre-soak and put your clothes in the washer still soaking wet?
