Am I getting the right encoding performance with my i5-2500K

I just built a system with an Intel i5-2500K, 8GB of G.Skill Ripjaw memory, and an ASRock Z68 Extreme4 board. I have a 5770 graphics card. I have read all this literature about the new Z68 chipset and i5 CPU's and how they are supposed to help with accelerating encoding. I installed and enabled Lucid Virtu but to be honest don't know what it does. I don't know what Quick Sync is or how it works.

Anyway, I am encoding a DVD from VOB to H.264 (MKV) and am getting an average of 105 FPS in Handbrake (latest version). Does this seem right? I have read numbers of 180-200 with the same CPU.

How can I best take advantage of the supposed encoding enhancements and how do I know if I am "doing it right"?

The numbers you get depend on alot of things, such as original size vs. encoded size, and whether audio is being re-encoded as well. 105 fps is a very normal number for your setup. I have the same setup, just a different brand MB, and I get between 90 and 120 fps encoding performance depending on the material. BTW, I use ConvertXtoDVD

I don't believe that Handbrake uses Quick Sync. It does all it's encoding using your processor. You'd need to use a different program to utilize Quick Sync such as Cyberlink Media Espresso or Arcsoft Media Converter.

sygyzy: i don't think you got max performance with your system, Asrock must have som bugs with this mobo - try playing movies then see the results.

I have i5 2500k, asrock extreme 4, ati 5750, 8 GB DDR3 (1600 MHz)

when I play mkv/iso files 1080p in vlc, BS player, xbmc, with codecs/witout codecs, its LAGGING ?
whats wrong ? bios is updated, chipset driver is installed, also installed Intel HD3000 embedded GPU with same result ?

anybody help please

I have no problem at all with the PC in my signature... using Media Player Classic - Home Cinema x64.

I believe this is correct. Handbrake only utilizes the CPU.

Correct, looks like there are only a handful of apps that support this so far:
