I just built a system with an Intel i5-2500K, 8GB of G.Skill Ripjaw memory, and an ASRock Z68 Extreme4 board. I have a 5770 graphics card. I have read all this literature about the new Z68 chipset and i5 CPU's and how they are supposed to help with accelerating encoding. I installed and enabled Lucid Virtu but to be honest don't know what it does. I don't know what Quick Sync is or how it works.
Anyway, I am encoding a DVD from VOB to H.264 (MKV) and am getting an average of 105 FPS in Handbrake (latest version). Does this seem right? I have read numbers of 180-200 with the same CPU.
How can I best take advantage of the supposed encoding enhancements and how do I know if I am "doing it right"?
