Am I getting old and jaded or does Killzone 2 really suck?

Granted the graphics are pretty as all heck and the voice acting by the leader of the bad guys is pretty good. Other than that, is a very standard run of the mill corridor shooter with poor AI which seems harder due to crappy aiming controls. That doesn't even go into the really stupid decision to only allow one gun. Maybe I'm just getting to old and tired of the standard FPS formula but KZ2 seems like nothing more than one killing room after another.
 
i played through the single player the other day. wasnt anything special...ill probaly go back to PC shooter's soon enough
 
I found the demo meh enough to not bother even renting it yet. I read the MP is where it is at though.
 
The campaign is solid but mostly forgettable and doesn't really bring anything new to the genre (though I still enjoyed it). The multiplayer is indeed where it's at. It combines a lot of the prevalent FPS MP elements with some new spin. The ranking up system borrowed in parts from games like Halo 3 and COD4 adds an addictive element.
 
I didn't really enjoy the game all that much, but the AI was pretty impressive I thought. I just couldn't get used to the weighted controls but I wish I could the MP changing gametype would be sick with CoD4 controls.

Poor AI? No worse than any other "good" FPS out there. Perhaps you were playing on too low of a difficulty setting? That does change how good the AI is.

I'm also assuming you're playing post-1.2 patch, yes? That tightened up the controls, though they're definitely better on MP (publicly known as a design choice).

But, yes, MP is definitely where it's at. Way more impressive, deep, and fun than you'd believe based on the SP campaign.
 
i have the game and i have only played the mp. took getting used to buts its alright. gets better once u start unlocking some of the classes.

single player i have no interest in right now.
 
Personally, I loved the game and I don't think the demo really portayed the game in the best light. The demo is from very early in the first level and, IMO, the game gets continually better the deeper you go... in other words, the demo section is one of the worst in the game.

i only play multiplayer and it is freaking fantastic. it's what i've been looking for since i got bored of cod4 and should keep me occupied until cod4-2 since i hate the way gow2 multiplayer plays. single player was alright, but multiplayer is where it shines.

while i cant say FPS on console outright fail. Being a PC shooter who tried to go console shooter. I see the vast inferiority in the Console FPS games. which makes me wanna sell off all my Console FPS's. and i have a bunch.
there not bad. they just all seem very similar. the models in KZ2 resemble COD4. the colors are different, but the game's look similar. nothing wrong with that.

i do own KZ2... however im thinking of getting rid of it.
Doom on SNES was my first FPS experience, and will not be the last heh 🙂 enjoy

I got this game, and really hate it lol. I couldn't get myself to finish the single player, and not patient enough to give MP a fair chance. I'll trade my copy for LBP, or Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank. Oh well, I learned my lesson - not to listen to PS3 fanboys on n4g.com. That website was virtually taken over by killzone 2 postings around the time this POS came out, and I guess I bit the bullet. F me.

Putting "...really hate it lol..." and "...not patient enough to give MP a fair chance..." really isn't something you should say if you want people to listen to you in any sort of good way (especially when MP in the game takes a bit of time before it really opens up).

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I play on both platforms as well and I simply don't see the vast superiority. Some people get hung up on the control differences, and that's fine, but as for the elements beyond the controls, I just don't see the superiority. I can't even think of a really good recent shooter for the PC. Some of the more recent shooters, like Merchants of Brooklyn, just plain suck. The last one that I really wanted to enjoy was Warhead. I really liked Crysis, but for some reason Warhead ran like shit. I played for a while and then gave up trying to get it to run smooth consistently. Don't have time for that nonsense.
 
Ha ha, you are right. I guess I tried to like this game, but couldn't. I understand it is a different type of FPS than the COD series, however it's not my cup of tea, and I am sure a lot of other people feel the same way after trying it. To each his own I guess.
 
The game is pretty fun, I enjoyed the demo and I thought it was cool but then I bought the game a few days ago and spent a few hours on multiplayer, it's pretty darn fun.

I'm still a PC shooter kind of guy though, the only reason I bought Killzone 2 (besides it being a PS3 exclusive) was because I actually enjoyed the weighted controls (they match the naturally slow and clunky gamepad control scheme) and the game itself is quite fun.

I'll be starting the campaign shortly but MP was pretty cool, I love how the game mode is changed on the fly.

Console shooters usually suck for me but KZ2 does enough things right (mainly, not wanting to be a PC shooter on very limited console hardware) that I ended up enjoying the game enough to buy it.
