Am I expecting too much from my system?

Ok here is my major gripe!! In games, the majority of gameplay is smooth, but every now and then it slows down a lot and I get an occasional stutter every now and then as well. I have 256 MB of RAM i thought stuttering and HARDDRIVE PAGING was supposed to be ELIMINATED. I don't mind if the framerate goes down, but i hate it when i get frickin HARDDRIVE PAGING. I thought 256 mb of ram would run everything flawlessly without ever giving harddrive paging. If anybody here plays ALice, the harddrive paging is especially prevalent in the last levels.

are you running win98? if so you can try adding the line

ConservativeSwapFile = 1

under 386Enh in your system.ini. supposed to make windows access your ram first before going to your harddisks.

yup he's right that will cetainly help alleviate the drive thrashing
