Am I doing this the best way with transfering files around on Hardrives on server?

So apparently I was not very good at folder naming for movies/music/HD. So I was arranging them correctly on WHS. However, I soon found out naming folders what you want the first time is critical.

A simple transfer in the SAME directory (ex: /server/movies/HD to /server/movies) is almost instant. But going from a different dir (ex: /server/users/admin/movies to /server/movies) takes close to 16minutes for 1 HD movies around 8gigs!

Does this seem right to you? For some reason i'm not figuring it out..

Are you logging into the server via RDP to do the moves? If I remember right, if you do moves from the WHS file console on a client system the file moves over the network, to your system, then to the new place you want it to be. Same if you open two networked computers and on your system and drag a folder from one networked computer to another networked computer, the folder flows through your system. At least that was my experience several years ago. Either way, on WHS when I use RDP I never have that issue, and I move lots of files around on that 5TB array.

I just had the same experience myself. Doing pretty much the same thing. Why moving between shared folders routes it through the network is beyond me. RDC in and the problem is solved. Weird.
