Total waste of money, that kind of mark up for just leather seats is insane, unless you have money to burn. There are tons of cars out there with heated factory leather, don't waste a dime on trying to get heated leather retrofitted

are you linking the word civic with the 96 model or the 2008?
the new civics are not bad IMO and nothing like the 96 models i wouldnt even say the same class
there is nothing in a civic that would equate to 'luxury.' the new civics are nice, but they are FAR from luxury.

That's a *very* solid choice. Bargain for what you get really. Compare to Saab, Volvo, Audi, etc, and to get the same setup costs a *LOT* more. Hell, $26k barely gets you a Volvo C30, which is really just a MK2 Focus with a 2.5L Turbo. Not even AWD :(

Great car, but one equipped like that starts at $29K. Even invoice is $27K. I don't doubt you could pick one up for a fair bit less than MSRP, but apples to apples it's a meaningfully more expensive car, plus requires more fuel.

FYI - A beautiful white 2005 Legacy 2.5GT won this weeks autocross here over many civics, G8s, miatas and S2000s.... they are a beast of a car

Uh, it's only a 2.0L engine. It will get 30mpg or better on the highway, which will either meet or beat that SI. Mainly because the GTI turns a lower gear in 6th. Just thought I would point that out, can't argue much with the reliability although this generation is better.

I support the Legacy GT though. If I could do it over again I would probably get one! Nicer inside than many imagine.

For auto-x I'd bet on the miatas and s2k's. The Legacy probably just had a better driver.

Have you considered buying used?

The old model Civic SI had independent front suspension, while the new one does not. It also weighed a good bit less. And, with the money you save by buying a used car, you can buy whatever aftermarket seats you want.

Of course, if you want a car that's practical, comfortable, and reasonably zippy, a Subaru Legacy is not a bad choice. The fuel economy is pretty lousy, though.

Another overlooked option is the very good Mazda3. It's a very well made car, it's very cheap, it's very reliable, it's got good seats if you spring for the leather, and it's incredibly fuel efficient - my father managed 36mpg overall in his 2.3 liter 5-door on a long road trip through careful driving. There's also the Mazdaspeed 3, which is basically the same car with a turbo for another 80 horsepower.

I'm not a big fan of the Civic SI, if you are gonna go FWD performance, might as well get some boost.

Or a GLi :)

I have an 07 civic si sedan w/ navi. FYI, i get ~25mpg in the city and ~35 on the highway. i love it to death.

I see you're from CA. definitely look into getting the summer tire factory option. The stock Michelins are pretty crap. The summer tires are very grippy in the dry and in the rain.

i believe the 09 does have usb, but i'm not sure how well that would work with an ipod. i got the peripheral electronics ipod/hd radio adapter and it works very well (emulates the xm so you get text display on the navi screen)

good luck with the seats :)

edit: a word on resale value. i paid 22k OTD for mine, and i could sell it today for 19k if i wanted to.
