Am I crazy? I prefer WMP7 over Winamp for playing MP3s!

Okay, everyone one here says that WMP7 is bloatware, has a terrible interface, etc...

So, I tried Winamp and I am left very cold by it. Perhaps I'm missing something, but why can't playlists be managed using the ID3 tags? WMP7 does this very well with the Media Library feature. Am I crazy?

Maybe some suggestions on other MP3 players would help set me straight...

The reason why I use Winamp is its extremely low processor usuage. WMP tends to use a lot more.

I've tried both WinAmp and W(I)MP7 and WMP7 quickly became uninstalled. Terrible program.

BTW Winamp uses only 7 MB for me, +\- 1% CPU and hasn't ever crashed. Compared to this WMP7 is indeed bloatware.

Well, a quick glance at TaskManager indeed shows that the processor usage on my system is about 8-10% when running WMP7 compared to 1% with Winamp, but so what? It doesn't really slow me down in any way. It also uses more memory - 18MB versus 10MB for Winamp. No big deal really since I have 512MB of RAM.

The interface with WMP7 is a bit clunky, but I do love the way that songs can be viewed by Album, Artist, or Genre. It's a fantastic way to organize a large MP3 collection. Winamp has nothing close to this - it's archaic to have to choose and arrange MP3 playlists by filename only. Is there any other player out there that gives this functionality without the bloat?

I also like WMP, but I do have one gripe: I can't find a "continuous play" feature anywhere. As far as memory, processor usage, etc., it doesn't bother me.

A quick glance at my task manager shows WMP7 using only 5MB of RAM. Anyway, I prefer it over Winamp because, although the skinned interface is clunky and sort of slow, it's still easier than Winamp's (although maybe I just haven't spent enough time getting used to the latter). And the fact that WMP7 can sort by ID3 tags is very nice. My only gripe about it is that it can't edit the ID3 tags.

I say, give Winamp another chance.
I have tried them all: WMP7, Sonique, Musicmatch etc. and Winamp is just the best.
It is small(literally), efficient, has a butload of plug-ins and skins, and it really kicks the Llama's a$$.

WMP 7 takes a lot longer to load and just play a song than Winamp. Winamp is FAST!

I'll have to try Winamp again; they've probably fixed the things I didn't like in a new version that came out since I tried it last. Anyway, WMP7 isn't slow on my system; it loads in 2 to 3 seconds, and will start playing a song almost immediately after loading it.

If you have a sharp ear like me..

Winamp definitely decodes mps clearer than WMP7..

I've also tried Sonique and all.. they all suck.. altough Sonique was very attractive in looks..

IMO Music Match is better than Winamp. I used to use Winamp and I thought it was great, it was fast, small, and suited my needs. I then came accross Music Match not to long ago and fell in love with it. Music Match organized my entire collection of mp3s automatically by the name of the band, you can rip music CDs, and even burn music CDs with it. Winamp my be more efficient but I havn't noticed any slowdown on my computer using Music Match.

Winamp owns the hell out of Windows Media Player. Not only is it less of a resource hog (which is important with something that is always running imo), but it also has the following key points:

Cleaner look - You can set up WindowShade mode in which it can fit in a title bar of the current window or slap perfectly in the Start Bar

Faster mp3 playing ability - Ever take winamp and skip the first 50% of a song and see how fast it picks back up? Almost instant.

Awesome skin library - There is more winamp skins than any other skinnable application I've ever seen. Some very well done ones also.

Can sort by ID3 Tags - Set winamp to read Id3 tags on song loadup and it can sort by ID3 version 1 or version 2. Granted setting this takes winamp a decent ammount of time to load a 300 song playlist.

Supports MANY formats - Winamp has a very nice engine for playing .midi,.it,.xm,.mod ... if you dig that kind of stuff like I do.

Stack these features ontop of the fact that it runs on a lower ammount of resources and you have a nice little program that beats the heck out of WMP.

Now that I've actually tried the latest version of Winamp, I can definitely agree with the others that you are crazy :)
Actually, though, I like the music library feature in dbpoweramp, but the skin of that player itself sucks terribly, so I use Winamp.

Now we're talking! But I didn't see this option available. Do I need the full-featured version of Winamp to have this feature?

I prefer WMP to Winamp for several reasons. The media library is very handy, as is the ability to manage multiple playlists as much. I actually prefer the interface of WMP - Winamp's interface is too small and crowded. The dumb skins Winamp uses annoys me as well - I want to be able to re-order buttons. One more reason-Winamp can't read ID3v2 tags, WMP can. The extra memory and processor usage just doesn't bother me.

I prefer RealPlayer to both b/c sometimes no sound comes out of Winamp for me, and Media player takes forever to load and exit.

Winamp for me.

Its small, efficent, has the best playlist functionality for me, and sounds good.
And thats what an audio player is supposed to do, if I want something pretty, Ill get a million 3D plugins.

WMP OTOH is so incredibly bloated its inbelieveable.

I find winamp is 100x better for mp3s, but when it comes to play real cds from the cdrom winamp lags like a mofo. Even with windows media player and its stupid visuals that I couldn't find out how to turn off, winamp was slower. Well at least it lagged me while playing a game, the visuals weren't viewable but it still didn't lag my game like winamp. damn its late im not sure if im making sense

What version did they add that in? As of v2.6 (when I last used it), it couldn't read the ID3v2 tags I had added to all of my MP3s.
