Am i cheap??

Long story short... I live in SLC, Utah. While we have a decent state run liquor system, it's hard to get "goodies' when it comes to beer so I'm always looking for ways to pick up some different inventory. A co-worker told me his dad was driving down from Casper Wyoming and asked if I wanted anything..hell ya, so I placed a small order as I wanted to make it easy on his dad. the total came to $42.00...I got some Oscar blues ten fiddy and a bottle of Brandy barrel aged Abyss...4 cans and 1 bomber.

I gave my coworker $60 and came to find out that he called me a cheap ass. Is $18 for the old man being cheap? my manager said I should have given the guy $40.. $40 on $42 worth of beer? Wtf? I was very taken a back as I thought I was being quite generous.

Was he already buying stuff at the store he got your stuff at? If so I don't think what you did was unreasonable

Wow...Joo-Tah has improved since we lived there in the early 80's...

The state liquor stores used to be OMFG! expensive...especially as compared to Wyoming or Colorado...and the whole "bring your own bottle and buy set-ups for about the same price as cocktails" at the bars/clubs? Fuck that nonsense. Glad that's been repealed...oh...and the fucking "Mormon beer" thing...3.2%...piss beer.
Anyway...$20 SHOULD have been sufficient for the guy considering it wasn't really out of his way...and the tab was only about $40. Had you ordered a couple hundred $$ worth of booze...or a trunk full...that would have been different.

Agreed...A $200 order I'd have no problem giving him 40 smackers....And the beer is still expensive here... a 6 pack of Guinness is about $13.00...I can get em in Evanston Wy for about $7.00

This is the dumbest shit I've heard. If someone asks me if I want something and it cost $42, I give them $42. WTF? Am I tipping him? The understanding is, it's a favor and he's doing it as a nice gesture. If you're doing it to make some money, FU. I'll get it myself. And don't ask me for any favors, because I'll have to charge you.

I might have rounded it to 45$ - but i agree with those that say he offerred so it was a favor and no tipping for inconvenience was needed. Frankly, it seems bizarre money was expected at all beyond the 42$ - we do things different here I guess... and tipping 18$ was extremely generous as he didnt have to spend much time or expense getting the items.

Putting it into perspective - I've offered to go fown the street and get my coworkers something from the gas station (already going myself) - sometimes they pay what the product costs and I give them their change back and sometimes I'll cover the cost... and vice versa... I dont expect money on top of it for going - and that's basically the same situation.

It's a generous tip for a $42 worth of products and delivered to you. Not sure how much your co-worker expected. Maybe because his father drove 411 miles ( +6 hours)?

$18 profit and you are cheap? Nope, you did nothing wrong. I picked up stuffs for friends and family members all the time whenever I head to Dallas and I did not charge a dime extra.

Now if the items were heavy and bulky, then you should pay extra but they were not.

OP, look like you need new co-worker.

That's the odd part to me. Evanston is only about an hour to 1.5 hour drive from SLC. I made that drive daily from Layton in the early 80's. No biggie. Drive up, load up on cheaper booze...and fireworks, drive home.

The co-workers dad was already planning to drive into town? Yeah your co-worker is a d-bag and I'd ask for my change back just because he called you a cheap ass.
