he asked about cops because you were speeding. there was no need to bring up the alarm system. if it was me, i would have said that i am a cop and his blass was under arrest.

Were you going to say to him the bolded part above? Your sentence is ambiguous and the two possibilities make a big difference!

... I was going to tell him that we got an alarm system...

Did you get background checks on the alarm company employees and known associates? No, don't think about it. Forget I ever mentioned it.
Sleep tight.

Don't say anything to the guy.

I get that it's not necessarily racist. It's a culture clash. Sounds like you and he are from two different worlds. You'd probably feel just as nervous if this guy (Riff Raff) gave you the ride...

ATOT racism rears it's ugly head once again. Now we just gotta have Spidey's, Geosurface's, and SpatiallyAware's input on this.

The guy was black

Would I feel the same way if it was a white guy? Yes, I would.

And this is utter bullshit....."(you'd) feel the same way if it was a white guy."

Why BS? Because if you honestly would have felt the exact same way if the kid was white, why did you even bother to mention the kid was black in the first place?

And that in and of itself shows your lie and racism. If the color of the kid's skin made no difference, you'd have never mentioned it....but it did matter. And that's called racism.

The guy who installed my internet and cable TV was black. I didn't have a problem with him as he was very well dressed in his company uniform and I even offered him orange juice as he was working. The only reason I mentioned the color of the guy's skin that I drove to my home is simply because I wanted to know if he would think I was being racist if I told him that he made me feel uncomfortable. Is it a culture clash? I wouldn't call it that. Appearances play a huge role in society from how we dress to work to simplest things on how we conduct ourselves on facebook to please our employers.

I needed to drop my car off at the mechanic but I had no one to take me home, so the owner of the shop had one of his employees ride with me home to take my car back to the shop. While we were riding home, he opened my window to wave at one of his friends in an orange jumpsuit. They had a conversation about why he was cleaning up the city, basically he had a DWI. After that, he asked me about cops in my neighborhood because I was speeding. Basically he made me feel uncomfortable.

So I was thinking that when I pick up my car, I was going to tell him that we got an alarm system because of how he made me feel uneasy with the reasons above. Am I being racist, an asshole, and is it okay for me to tell him this?

It's not that he was black. Why is everyone so focused on color? What made me feel uncomfortable was not the color of his skin, but that he was making conversation with a criminal.

Hmm Orange suit now Orange juice.

Are you still angry at OJ's verdict? That is so 90's

We are all racist. Some admit it, most don't. Deep inside, we have many, many racist tendencies. They come out occasionally. Some do a better job at hiding it than others.

What an incredibly awkward potential conversation. I couldn't imagine walking up to someone and saying "You made me feel uncomfortable the other day, so I bought a home security system". I'd love to see the look he gives you when you bring it up though.

^^^ Comedy gold! :awe:

Tell him! Then do ask him if he thinks you're being racist. No matter the season, bring a nice, big slice of watermelon to offer him just to show you care. Extra points if it's winter!

lol. I'm really amazed at how many people in this thread are angry because I mentioned his skin color. I didn't even have to use the N word to get people riled up. Maybe I worded it wrong but I just wanted to know if I would offend the guy to the point that he would think i'm racist or just an ass. I would have felt the same way had a white guy opened my window to be buddy buddy with someone in an orange jumpsuit.

Wow so just because the guy had a friend with a DUI he robs houses?? That's the biggest WTF I have ever read. Yes you are being raciest. From your posts here you would be the kind of person I would not want to be friends with.

As you can tell from my previous topics and post, I'm not one to start troll threads. This really did happen today and this is exactly how I felt. I was uneasy driving him to my home after he made buddy buddy with his friend in the orange jumpsuit.

I told my group of friends this and how I felt, they never once thought that I was racist. Maybe I am? I don't think so at least. Did a quick google of the definition of racism and I don't see how my situation applies. I guess over the years the word racists has changed to a much broader term, at least for the black community and those people with a black guilt complex.
