I don't know, it's just games... I would definitely mention it to him and see what he says.

"GTA:SA, Dawn of War, Bioshock, Far Cry"

These are older games - are you still playing them? If not, I don't really think that's piracy. If you haven't played them in a while, just uninstall them; if you ever decide to play them again, make him uninstall and you can re-install. You need to let him know that you don't approve of piracy and he needs to let you know before using your games, but you could also be a nice roommate and let him temporarily use the games you're not using.

Talk to him about it?
Plus you need to understand what he is doing is not piracy if you just uninstall the game from your own computer. It keeps save files so you aren't in danger of losing those.

Actually, it depends on the game. Many games say multiple copies may be installed, as long as only one of them is in use at a time. Starcraft, one of the biggest, best RTS's out there, is like this.
You have a skewed view of what piracy is. Do you buy used things off Amazon? Used books? Do you not lend movies or cds or books or textbooks to your friends? If you have a problem with this then I'd say it is in your right to enforce your opinion of what is "fair" on others, but rest assured the law is clear that the publisher sold you a book, a video, and that you are allowed to let others use that. When multiple copies are in use at the same time is when you are breaking the law.

As for using your computer to play CoD4, I'd say to my roomate he's welcome to use it only if he gets off right away if I seriously need it. If I don't seriously need it then I'd just give him the time to finish, within reason.

If you can't get over sharing things like this then what makes you think it'll be any easier when you're married? You might have only one of something and you will have to share. Dunno why it's so hard for people these days to share...

My first thought when reading the title was that your roommate took your legit games and uploaded/shared them. But the way you explained it, he simply took your copy & key without your permission and installed it on his own computer which seem fine to me in the grand scheme of all things piracy. If you each had your own tv and xbox/ps3 and he took your games to play on his, would you have a problem with that? Do you have a problem with game rental companies like gamefly? If not then the only difference is money, you feel money have to exchange hands for there to be some sort of legitimacy in playing games.

what kind of friend doesn't share their games? if you aren't playing it, why do you care? i don't even see the piracy issue. i happily lend that kinda stuff to my friends. as for him using your comp, lock it down if you really dont want him on it. you just sound bitter because he is getting to play your games for free and you had to pay for them. i don't know, it could be perceived at selfish, but OTOH, it is clear your flatmate is not considerate of your feelings about your stuff at all, so more than you being selfish, i think he is being a prick.

Didn't Starcraft even let you install a version that could only be used to join LAN games, thus with one copy you could legally play an 8 person LAN game? I remember a game like that, I thought it was Starcraft.

If he is cracking the game after it is installed and not using your cd keys, I don't see it as a problem. If you don't give him the game he can just as easily go online and download it. If I were as concerned about piracy as you are, I would think that him downloading full games over the internet connection you share would be an even larger problem.

Bottom Line: He will get the game if he wants it. You aren't being affected by him installing it off the disc, not a big deal.
