if the fact that they were smoking in front of your father's place of business was what pissed you off, then you should have confronted them directly to smoke somewhere else or that you would be willing to tell their boss. if they say "fuck you" then tell their boss.

you know that the ganja is no big deal. guys around here surf all the time high and that is the most horrifying activity i can think of.
 
I would have done the same thing. It may not of been your business what they were doing with their time, but it could have quickly BECOME your business if they did something stupid.

as someone who smokes the ganja himself, i can definitely say that unless you're smoking absolute shit, weed is going to have an effect on your job performance. might not affect your judgement like alcohol, but you're not going to be at 100%. not even close.
 
If I had seen this at some random place I would have thought they were assholes and hoped they got caught because of safety, but if it was my dad's place, I'd have told him and let him decide how to deal with it. If they were really screwed up I'd have called the police.

My issue is that you left out all details that you were a party in the decision to call the owner and made it sound like you're an outside person agreeing with GA. Maybe add some details your brother left out or some more explanation on how you both came to that decision. I don't know, maybe a shred of disclosure?

If it is serious scaffolding work OP really should have called anyways. If you're gonna smoke pot don't do it at the damn workplace... FFS.
 
Ha this reminds me of when I worked for this heating and cooling company. I drove the company truck every where. I went to go pick something up in a crowded parking lot. My buddy was in a different car than normal and I ended up making it fairly obvious what I was doing. So this lady calls the number on the truck and tells my boss she is watching me doing a drug deal. We got a good laugh from it as we were smoking our joint in the morning getting ready to go to work.
 
The only people who think you were an asshole are the one's who probably do this kind of crap and don't want anyone to tell them they can't. I've smoked plenty of pot in my time and think it should be completely legal. But you sure as hell shouldn't be doing it at work, when you could potentially have a safety issue.
