Am I a loser for not going to prom?

I have been to two different Proms, but not my own senior prom... The first one sucked ass, I had a buddy that set me up with a date with one of his friends. I thought it was cool at the time and was determined to have a good time. That ended in miserable failure I was bored the entire night, my date had no interest in even talking to me, and I ended up sleeping on a cold hotel room floor with no pillow or blanket and without even bothering to get wasted. I wanted nothing to do with prom when it came time for my class's, I didn't have a date, knew I had no chance of finding one so I said "fvck it, who needs the crap anyways?"
The second prom I went to was my current girlfriends, she is a bit younger than me and I ended up knowing no one else there. Almost was bitten by a snake and was bored the rest of the night.
All in all they are overrated boring social events designed for the "popular" people to hang out and fawn over how good they look in tuxes and dresses. Not worth the effort or money involved.

Heh, QFT...

I honestly had more fun at my band banquets than I had at the prom my senior year.

I didn't go to the prom and I'm not a loser. At least that's what my mom tells me.

...but really, I didn't go my prom and I don't regret it. Take the money you would have spent and ask a girl who isn't going to the prom out on a date. You'll probably have your friends beat when you talk about all the things you did that night.

Yes, you are a loser. And you know what's worse? I'm a 42 year old virgin and I just called you a loser -- you must really be a loser for that to happen.

It really depends on the school and leadership class if your going to have a shitacular prom or not (my school calls it Senior Ball, junior prom). Also it depends if you were semi popular/if you have a date. You can't make generalizations saying that all prom's suck because they don't. A prom at a school in kansas will likely suck and will likely have all the stereo typical people while a prom in "like the O.C" will not necessarily suck and not have all the stereo typical people (maybe for that region apposed to american stereo type).

i feel really bad for the people who had shoddy high school experience or think highschool is useless...

anyway, you're not a loser for not going. Prom's aren't the end all be all of anything. If you can grab some friends together, then go stag, just chill with friends at prom and what not. In all honesty, it's girls who make a big deal out of it, simply b/c they get to play dress up.

I doubt going to prom will make your highschool experience any better as if you haven't made friends with people who are going, it's just gonna be awkward, moreso if you don't dance.

Here's a thought though, do something else besides going to lans. Doing that is in my opinion wasting your time at highschool.

I remember the feeling. I wanted to ask Jennifer out for prom: she is blond, tall, beautiful, and NICE (hard to find).
However, I dismiss her because I assumed she already got a date to the prom.
to make the story short, I ask her best friend out (Teressa) to the Prom instead.

Teressa then turn to me, ask me to find a date for Jennifer............OUCH! LIFE IS SO COLD

OMFG, WOW! I swear to god not only can I feel your pain (in some ways like in other situations) but WOW!

I had a generally good time in high school, went to prom and enjoyed myself, and 4 years later I probably have thought about prom and high school a handful of times. It's really not that big a deal, high school is just a blip in life once you are done with it. Go, don't go, you're not going to regret it for the rest of your life either way. But it IS just one night, and I always like to try new things. But that's me, I realize that stuff like that if you have no date and aren't very social isn't a whole lot of fun for some people.

I love all the people ragging on the OP for not going to prom. If you really think prom was some sort of great moment in your life, you really need to experience more stuff.

man go for sure!!!!! mines next week and its going to be a blast, just have a couple of drinks and you'll be fine

Well that's certainly true. Nothing brings out the inner extrovert in even the most introverted people like a couple of drinks. If the real problem is that you don't want to go beccause you are really shy, there is always this approach 😀

hahah this thread cracks me up. Why do the responses not surprise me, since this is AT and all?

Which response? People saying prom sucks and you shouldn't go or people saying you are a total loser if you don't go?

Actually, they both sound like ATOT.

prom is overhyped.
go to the after parties.

depends on the school. My prom was a blast. of course i cam in a limo, and all the cool people came in firetrucks, trolleys, dragster, ambulances, the list goes on. Of course a few years ago, some intrepid young folk did take a helicopter to the prom. i heard that was cool,

But, yeah, depending on the school the prom can blow. My high school was featured in .... you guessed it "readers digest" for having the best prom in the country.

The prom sucks. I didn't go to my prom, for what. You want me to pay HOW much money to go - for one night. Get outta here. I didn't go to mine, but I went to someone else's and it was everything I expected to be. Crappy appitizers, crappy food, some DJ. It was nothing special. Sht, I sure had a lot more fun going to this thing called Project Graduation for 10 bucks. Prom smom. Plus, if your high school experience sucked, then it's probably best not to go, cause it's probably gonna suck as well.

I didn't go to my prom but I went to my ex-gf's prom. Biggest waste of money ever. So much money gone for nothing
