Remind me to never do business with you, since you don't sound all that honest

If you expect me to do your work for you, fix your mistakes, and wait on hold any time I want to speak with you then you sound like an awful business partner so good riddance.

The point just went flying over your head, probably because you're being purposely dense.

Pointing out a mistake is not doing somebody else's work for them. Like you've never made a mistake

Sure, cherry pick one point out of three that I made. That shows you understand the issue.

I'm not planning on keeping the money, I'm just not actively helping them find the error because it isn't my problem.

OMG I tried this and it worked!
I just put a blank piece of paper in with all the bills and it double deposited!
So I did it 214 more times and I'm boarding a flight right now to Swizzlerland!

OP - banks usually catch this kind of thing. The amount of time varies. I know I've seen a thread somewhere that it took a really long time (like a year). If you knowingly spend the money: it's a crime. You could save everyone time and aggravation by telling them. But I get it, you think you're being cute ... pull one over on big banks!

OP, you're forgetting that the laws are made in the bank's favor. If they made an error 4 months ago, in their favor, "sorry, you should have caught it in time." If they make an error in your favor, they'll catch it later - the minute your balance drops $1 below the amount of the error. They want interest on that money, and they'll squeeze it from you in the form of an overdraft fee.

Think of it this way: someone at the bank might be watching your account every single day, waiting for the one day that the balance drops below the amount of the error. That's they day they will discover the error. Or, at least, that's the way it seems to work out for people.

I don't think you have any obligation to do jack shit as far as the bank is concerned. If they can't find the mistake on their own, fuck 'em. The worst that happens is they do realize the mistake and remove the money. Hell, personally I'd wait another statement cycle and make the same mistake again just to see what happens.

How big is the deposit?

Just add that dollar amount to your normal minimum balance. If bank never finds out, then you have a bit of extra financial security buffer, if they do find out, you arent screwed.

Nah.

-I don't care about the bank at all
-I'll be put on hold and transferred endlessly
-I'm expecting they'll figure it out eventually since this is bookkeeping I'm literally paying them to do

If a few more weeks go by and the money is still there, I might call them up and say I just noticed it. But to go out of my way to help someone you hate fix their own fuckups is not something I jump at the chance to do.

And liar.

Serious question, how do I prove that it's a duplicate transaction?

They should have caught the error when they checked the ATM transactions for the day/week/whatever. Cash into the ATM didn't equal cash deposited into accounts.

Hey, I'v got a novel idea, why don't you go to the bank and point out the mistake. A lifetime of knowing you did right beats a lifetime of looking over your shoulder.

Recently, I bought a new cooktop from Pacific Sales (Best Buy). Long story short, the manager had told me he would sell it to me the same price I bought the first one for as the price had gone up a $100 - so a $100 off the new price. I told him I would be back in a few days to do the sale. Came back and dealt with one of the normal sales folks. She put everything together and because I'm decent in math and an accountant I could easily see she gave me $150 off on mistake. I pointed the mistake out to her and her reply "Oh. Oh well, don't worry about it". See, sometimes good things happen when you do right.
OP isn't that type.

That's what I was referencing earlier ITT when I said simply "iPad."

A quote from that thread:
I'm not surprised some people think of it as "finder's keepers," but I am disgusted that I have to share the oxygen on this planet with them. Just the other day, my wife and I were shopping & after paying with a debit card, the cashier handed us back $10. But, we didn't ask for cash back. Unfortunately, we had clicked on "email my receipt," so there wasn't a record right there for us. We told her, and went to the service desk, told them what happened, and gave our name & phone number, in case the drawer was $10 short. On the way out, we were behind an elderly gentleman. While he was fumbling with his receipt and change while walking, he dropped a bunch of money on the ground. Oblivious, he walked on. I picked it up, ran to catch up to him, and gave him the money he dropped.

There's at least one individual in this thread that I think would consider both situations as "score!" If you don't know the difference between right and wrong, you're pathetic. If your parents didn't teach you the difference between right and wrong, your parents suck.
He was talking about our honest little OP here.

same thing happened to me.

withdrew 420 dollars, checked my bank balance said it was cancelled and reversed and had an extra 420 dollars in my account.

didn't think anything of it just left it in there and went back 2 weeks later and there was a note on my account saying they saw me in the camera and asked why didn't i report it and i said not my problem take it it's yours.

after the third time i was interrogated about it i was like hey can you take that note off my account i've heard about it 3 times already!

Your honesty and integrity are not defined by what you do when people are watching you.
