I deposited some cash at a Bank of America ATM. The machine couldn't read one of the bills and spit it out, so I cancelled the whole transaction and started over with a new deposit.

The cancelled transaction is still there and now I have an extra wad of cash in my checking account that I didn't deposit.

That was over three weeks ago. Does it take 90 days or something to post to your account or is this the new uber leet hax that anyone can use to get free money from ATMs now? :ninja:

You should withdraw it completely and leave only a few cents in the account so they can't take it back. What could go wrong?

You're only a dirty crook if you withdraw it. So, first put on a disguise, then hit an ATM in some other area, preferably near poor people, then report the card stolen.

Skank of America isn't really known for having their shit together so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bug.

Why do people do that? Just makes you look like either an 8 year old or someone who has no imagination. Seriously? Skank of America? At least put some effort into it making some semblance of sense with regards to the business.

Hey, I'v got a novel idea, why don't you go to the bank and point out the mistake. A lifetime of knowing you did right beats a lifetime of looking over your shoulder.

Recently, I bought a new cooktop from Pacific Sales (Best Buy). Long story short, the manager had told me he would sell it to me the same price I bought the first one for as the price had gone up a $100 - so a $100 off the new price. I told him I would be back in a few days to do the sale. Came back and dealt with one of the normal sales folks. She put everything together and because I'm decent in math and an accountant I could easily see she gave me $150 off on mistake. I pointed the mistake out to her and her reply "Oh. Oh well, don't worry about it". See, sometimes good things happen when you do right.

The closest BoA is 2 miles away and I'm not taking a day off just to see them during business hours. That's why online banking exists. That's what I pay them to do.

If doing the "right" things means giving a few dollars back to a multi-billion-dollar corporation for something that's their fault, my conscience is clean.

Yes, the FBI will be after me for a triple-digit bank error. You caught me.

No, what's going to happen is I'll wait it out until they audit the system. It's just an annoyance that it hasn't happened yet.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but banks don't give out free money.

Why bother? They really do suck.

My 1st experience with them:
1993ish, Bought my grandmother's house for 75% of market value but I financed 95% of the loan (my 1st mortgage). The loan office knew the details. I was naive to the whole process. After the loan was done, I called and asked why I was paying PMI. The loan officer said that I should have had grams sell me the house for $1 and get the loan to pay her. Eff BOA and I don't need an imagination to know they stuck me.

Rake, deposit a check for $10M, transfer the funds to another account and send us a postcard from some nice tropical country. Win.

You have to take an entire day off to go 2 whole miles to a bank?

Online banking, can't you report the mistake via online? I'd bet if it was in the banks favor you would go the two miles and scream your head off.

Yes, I guess you are a crook.

OP, yes you are a "dirty" crook. Another name added on my "bad" members list. ;)

Do what is right and go to the bank and report the "error". :hmm:

Nah.

-I don't care about the bank at all
-I'll be put on hold and transferred endlessly
-I'm expecting they'll figure it out eventually since this is bookkeeping I'm literally paying them to do

If a few more weeks go by and the money is still there, I might call them up and say I just noticed it. But to go out of my way to help someone you hate fix their own fuckups is not something I jump at the chance to do.

It's only stealing if you get caught :hmm:

Plus what are they going to do, send a cop to your house? It's not like cops go around shooting people for shits and giggles right?

There's an episode of Sandford & Son where Grady was staying at the house, he got his Social Security check, then the mail man delivered a 2nd check by accident. Grady was excited as shit, Lamont did everything he could to make Grady feel bad and do the right thing and return it. Grady thought about it and ended up deciding to go to Vegas for a few days.

When he got back someone from the SSI office showed up at the house to tell them a mistake had been made. Grady looked like he was going to shit himself, the guy said their was a screw up and no check was sent out. So Grady ended up getting a 3rd check.

Oh yeah and FUCK BANK OF AMERICA!

It'll probably be corrected on its own - perhaps because its after bank hours and a weekend, you have a "fake" transaction posted. Regardless, why would you have to go to a branch to deal with it? Why not just pick up the phone and call them?

It's been almost a month.

Insufferable hold times and transfer loops. I don't even like to call them when it's my own money on the line.

Also, how could I prove that it's a mistaken transaction?

Lol, so your mind is already made up and your rational to keep something that's not yours is ingrained. Oh well, good luck.

Wow a whole two miles. Oh the humanity. Gotta take a whole day to go 2 miles and fix it? :hmm:

Remind me to never do business with you, since you don't sound all that honest

Besides, do you really directly pay them to do anything? I don't pay my bank anything. Heck, they pay me up to 5% on my credit card purchases.
