I'm graduating college in less than a month but so far I'm doing awesome. I scored the top on my midterm in my advanced networking class and then I scored 100% on my anthro midterm. Now today's distributed systems midterm is going to be a killer!

The last few weeks of my senior year in college were the most relaxed I've had. I graduated in 2002 and I haven't had a decent period of time to relax since I graduated. Enjoy it while you can.

Another vote for alcohol. That is a depressing time. Its hard to go from college life to a daily grind. Hopefully you will find a cool job like I did when I graduated 5000 moons ago and it won't be a bad transition.

I think every college senior feels that way.

We all have some combination of full-time position, moving, graduate school, relationships, etc on our minds. Too much real world stuff ready to get on with, and school is just holding it up for a few more weeks.

The job I got, looks to be very interesting, and I am very excited about it...

I'll be designing assembly line controllers for companies like GM, Ford, GE, and more...

Stop your whining. I'd kill to be a college senior right now. I still have 2 more years after this.

Am I a bad person for feeling this way? Or should I just drown my concerns in more alcohol?

No, you're not bad. You're just a traditonal American kid.

LOL - I think it depends on what kind of person you are. My observation is that life gets harder for those people that never had much of a grasp on reality when younger. For me, life is actually easier at 25 then it was ever for me in my teens.

Rules to live by, if you want an easier life:

1. Get your college education.
2. If you need to use your credit card to buy something, then the purchase is probably not important enough to make. Pay it off right away if you do use it.
3. Don't waste time watching TV.
4. Eat 3 meals a day.
5. Don't drink to get drunk. Don't smoke cigarettes.
6. Don't buy a new car, unless you're getting such a good deal that it's cheaper than buying a used car.
7. Always keep at least $1000 in your checking/savings account just in case.
8. Budget. Keep track of what you spend and how much you can afford.
9. If there is something that you really want to do, make time for it. Don't put it off.

This post just made me realize what all the fuss is about.

My parents didn't help me pay for college, I took out loans and paid out of pocket. They didn't help with my housing, I rented an apartment near campus. By my 2nd year of college, I had 3 jobs.

No wonder I feel like life is easier now. One steady full time job working about 50 hours per week, while taking distance and night classes a little under full time. And that seems like no big deal to me.

I know the feeling...I have 2 jobs, and going to school full-time...the grind of doing that for 4 years, has taken its toll...I now can't wait to get out...I have no motivation to do what I'm currently doing..in a way it's awesome

Using your credit card to purchase things in many cases is a very good idea. If you -need- something and you don't have the money, how much choice do you have? Also charging it up and paying it off immediatly or within 2 months is a good idea.

3 meals a day has been proven to not be the best way to eat.

Don't drink to get drunk or smoke cigarettes? Comon..

For my job I had to buy a new car, a used car that would have suited my needs would have fallen apart by the time I was halfway through paying for it.

$1000 in the bank at all times for emergency is a pipe dream for the vast majority of the population.

College education, biggest waste of money I ever encountered, personally.

i would agree with you on most of those..but the college education a big waste of money?? granted is very expensive, but well worth it in the long run

I think actually in the long run the value of a college education decreases to zero. As you amass experience the degree means very little.
Not to say that a college education is totally worthless, it's just way overvalued.

I went for CS and ended up not even working in that field. The field I'm in now didn't even care a lick about my college education. I spent years of my life, and thousands of dollars doing something that I completely hated and really didn't learn anything that is valueable in real life. If I could go back again, I would take basket weaving or something.

I didn't say that using credit cards were a bad idea. I've got several. I'm just saying if you don't have the money to buy a $2000 entertainment system, then it's not something you should put on a credit card just because you have the credit. And if you do buy something, be sure to pay it off right away just like you said. If you -need- something, that is why you should have at least $1000 stored a way for a rainy day (never live paycheck to payceck!).

Drinking to get drunk is expensive, and a waste of time once you wake up from your hangover. Drinking is great, but if you get so wasted you fall asleep or blackout, then is that fun? And cigarettes are just a waste of time, money, and health... It's sad to see so many smokers have to take a break in the rain to get their fix, while isolating themselves from the rest of the group of non-smokers.

For my job I also bought a new car, but only because the financing was cheaper than an old car. But you and I, we drive a lot. A lot of people take 10 to 30 minute commutes and don't need a 400 per month car payment on a hunk of metal that depreciates faster than warm milk.

$1000 is a pipe dream for so many because they don't budget, they don't track their purchases, they overuse their credit cards and increase their debt, and then buy new cars they can barely afford.

What do you do for a living that college was a waste of time? There are vocational colleges you know...

My step-dad has decades of experience, and around here he can't get another job with a better salary and benefits because he doesn't have a degree. He's stuck in his field and mainly at his current company.

If you didn't like CS, you should have done something else. :p Business, Marketing, Management, etc. - something general that you would find useful in almost any job.

Very true. I worked my ass off while I was in school, while the majority of my other classmates didn't, thinking that a degree in CS guaranteed them a $100k job after graduation.

I took a position in Medical IT after graduation (June '03) and I love it! Worked very hard to learn all I could and in just under 1.5 years I was offered a job that was a huge promotion for me. I took it, and now have been working here 3 weeks.

Hard work pays off..........well, at least it has for me. :D

Now go get wasted with your buds! See who can kill the most brain cells before graduation :D
