Although I dislike most GMs...

I do like the new Chevy Monte Carlo. What GM needs to do is include this design on to their new rear wheel drive chassis and it could get the Mustang a run for it's money.

And Ford needs to develop a car like this in order to be more competitive.

Doesn't Ford now own Jaguar? Maybe they are gonna slim down their brand offering? Jaguar seems to be doing well.

Its alright, looks like it has for a while now, but is this going to suffer from the low HP - high weight that has plagued it for a while now? If that supercharged V6 puts out enough power... then its (still only) OK. The problem with the Monte is that considering its price it has always been underpowered...

You know...I drove a '99 Park Avenue S/C with those same numbers...although a fairly different car, it certainly didnt feel like anything worth mentioning was under the hood.

Doubtful. GTO has over a 110 more horsies and a good 80ft/lbs more torqure and only weighs 200 pounds more.

Well, it looks better than the one I had.
That was just a lumina with two of the doors chopped off. GM really didn't try on that one.

The new SS might be cool. Although when optioned you are approaching $30K msrp.

^ he's right. The Monte SS SCed would be more like a 15 sec quarter mile (Monte is a heavy car), and the GTO would be more like mid/low 13s. But thats not to take away from the 3800 in the Monte, which is a great engine and is easily modded when the supercharger is bolted onto it.

Its just like a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with different body panels. Except the new GTPs get the Gen III L67 and not the Gen II. (260hp vs 240hp, same torque rating)

FYI they run ~high 14s stock. A GTO would beat it easily. However, there are lots of mods availble for the motor and they can be made into 12 second cars pretty easily. It just sucks that the wrong wheels get the power

Yeah, they were sleds still though, 70-72 was the prime for the Monte.

Yep they still could bring back the Mark VIII, but it was built off the Thunderbird platform, which of course has been discontinued. I would prefer something along the lines of the Torino in comparable size and function; maybe even add a convertible option.
