Ok,
So I have been wearing glasses for 3 or 4 years and need to go get a new perscription for my glasses.
I am trying to find a new way to get an eye exam. I don't trust myself enough to know when the damn letters are in focus or not.

I HATE when I go to the opthamologist and they make you read from the stupid chart and pick " 1 or 2", "3 or 4", "5 or 6"
I DON'T KNOW AHHHH!

I have been expecting some new technology to come out to read my eyes with a scanner of some sort and tell me what type of glasses I need.... is this not possible??

I found this iZon thing... http://www.izonlens.com/how-wow-works/
(I'm in no way affiliated with them or any of their products)

But I haven' done it... anyone have experience with this?

Are there any alternatives available for the "standard" eye exam that optometrists have been using for 40+ years?

One thing they need is a new way to do an eye exam at the RMV. You could have great vision, but still fail.

Probably because it'd be ridiculously expensive and not practical for a doctor to spend 6 figures on a machine that would do that. Are you so lazy you can't see which one is clearer?

It's not LAZY, its a matter of poor judgment...

How do I know the letters are actually clear? maybe lens 4 is slightly better than lens 5 and I can't tell but I pick 5 and I get a prescription that is slightly off when it COULD be better... or I slightly fog up the lens and don't realize and one side looks more blurry when in actuality it could have been more clear... you get my point

Side rant!
Oh I forgot that doctors, pharmacists, dentists, optometrist and other health care providers aren't supposed to actually HELP people.... they don't become medical practitioners nowadays to actually HELP people, they are more concerned about their paycheck and the bottom line... thats the main problem...(I'm not saying that I'm not concerned with the bottom line either, but that isn't the right reason to become a doctor)
/rant

In actuality, if a physician were to buy some kind of machine, sink some cash into advertising, and let everyone know how much more accurate your prescription could be, then they would have many more patients and probably could charge more.. (I don't know exactly how the insurance billing vs. charging more works)

anyways, thanks KillerCharlie, I will call a couple of Costcos and see if they have something...

FWIW I had a machine tell me my prescription before I had Lasik done but before actually going forward with the Lasik the Dr. had me do the old fashion test stating it was more accurate than the machine ever could be.
