I just bought a saphhire HD4830, after a long hiatus from gaming pc's. I used CCC to overclock it to 700/1000mhz. The gpu seems like it could go higher, but CCC doesn't allow it. Are there any alternative overclocking tools for a HD4830 in vista32?

Use ATI Tray Tools, it has great overclocking options (and fan control options)

Have you tried to run crysis or crysis warhead with OC'd card.

After some testing with the crysis demo, and had to drop the memory down a bit to 700/980. Still haven't tried oc'ing past 700 core though.

I took a look at both ati tray tools and riva tuner. Apparantly the sapphire 4830 doesn't let the fan spin below 25%. Is there any way around this? The gpu runs very cool at idle, I was hoping I could bring the fan down a bit.

flash that card with a modified BIOS: RBE (Radeon Bios Editor) + a flashing program of your choice (atiflash for DOS, winflash for, well, Windows). You can edit 2D/3D clocks, voltages, and fan profiles (although I haven't touched the fan settings before). I think the newest version of RBE works with the 4830, but you'll have to confirm that.

The best part, no background programs necessary to maintain your settings, as they are set in the hardware.
