Is he going to occupy every news cycle for the next 4 years? I am getting more and more concerned by these weird "press conferences" where Spicer tells blatant lies and then complains about attendance or threatens reporters to throw reporters out of the room. I understand Trump wants an authoritarian state, but I don't believe he's consolidated enough authority to really enforce his dictatorship. The question is will the American people, both in congress and the public, lie down and accept this foreign sponsored dictator or will they fight back?

Whenever he tweets something incredibly stupid watch the news as it will most likely take the attention away from shit that really matters...

God, she is so fucking slippery. But just like our two little Trumpeteers here so far, the only facts that matter to people like her are the ones she wants to matter.

Facts are immaterial in the post-truth era. What matters most is Brandolini's law & slinging more bullshit than the world has time to refute.

As far as politics goes it's always been the post-truth era. The difference now is that there is no subtlety and the application incredibly blatant. Just plain stupid.

Not really. Repubs took the whole thing in this direction in 1994. Prior to that, various HOR committees had research staffs tasked with finding facts so that legislators could deal with them. Gingrich swept that aside so that top down ideological considerations held sway. It's easier to sell bullshit when there is a dearth of available facts. The reason Trump has been successful is that he built on that platform to take it to a whole different level of deception.

I'm not sure. Are you saying that Presidents told the unvarnished truth and didn't spin things or outright lie before 1994? Far as I can recall pretty much all did, but I'm not going to say that some weren't worse than others. Nope.

The current situation is different though. It's like a post-Obrien era of "how many fingers am I holding up?"

I didn't say that at all. Even Reagan was tethered to the truth, if loosely. GWB certainly wasn't & Trump simply soars above such considerations entirely.

I'm surprised I haven't seen Conway as Obi-Wan from Jedi: "So what is said was correct... from a certain point of view."

I just don't know what to say anymore.... you can't argue alternative facts. It's a fucking lie plain and simple. A fact is a fact is a fact and it is a fact that Trump is a liar*. But he takes lying to a new level.

*As are all people in the world

Lol. Is that a defense that will hold up in a court? If her version of alternative facts were actually facts we should let everyone else out of prison because all our convicts have tons of alternative facts to support their side.

Hah, 'alternative facts'. I think she just created a phrase/meme/hashtag that's going to see a lot of use in the next four years.

"I am not a crook!"

"I did not have sex with that woman" ( after 94 though)

We did not — repeat — did not trade weapons or anything else for hostages — nor will we.”
