Altec-Lansing ATP3 a good step-up from ACS45?

I am looking at the Altec Lansing ATP3 as an upgrade to my more-than-2-years-old ACS-45 speakers I have for one of my rigs. On paper the specs of the ATP3 look slightly worse than the ACS-45 but I was wondering if anyone had any personal "good" experiences with it to make it worthwhile for me to upgrade.

Before you say it... the ATP3 is cheap and has gotten decent reviews which is why I'm looking at it. The Klipsch 2.1 is great but too big and expensive... same can be said for the $99 2.1 system by MidiLand (which is also nice).

thx

I've never heard the AC@45's, but I've had my ATP3's for almost a year and I LOVE THEM TO DEATH!

I recently built a system, using the ATP3's. I was real impressed by them. Imho, they are some of the best sub-$100 speakers out there.

Thanks, your responses correspond with this review i was just reading @ 3dsoundsurge... guess I better start looking for a good price on this thing, looks like it'll be a great companion for an OEM Santa Cruz I'll be picking up for real cheap...

IMHO get Altec Lansing ADA880 for $100, they are 4.1, dolby digital, remote, 8" subwoofer, tweeters, 3" woofer drivers, and for that price you can't go wrong! Much better than ATP3, I personally got them new for $90 from GoGoCity but they do not sell those anymore.

Anyone know where I can get Altec speakers in the UK, everyone recommends them to me but I can't find them anywhere.

Thanks

the only advantage of ATP3 might be the slim design and 2 tweeters, otherwise the two systems are quite similar. Both feature the same 3" driver, and have a 6.5" sub in a MDF cabinet
i'd assume you have the original ACS45, i have never heard it before, only the ACS45.2's, the ACS45.2's and ATP3 they sound similar...

Nah, my ACS45 is pretty sh!tty. The sub (which is less than half the size of the ATP3 and made out of plastic) has only "One 4 inch long throw woofer" according to the spec sheet in the instruction manual. Mine is the FIRST ACS-45.. the ACS-45W. Hopefully the better-designed sub of the ATP3 will make the bass sound better, even though it is 2W RMS less powerful.

Anyways these speakers are pretty old so I'm assuming they've degraded a bit and *anything* new will be an improvement. I guess I'll just order the ATP3 since I can get it for the same price that I paid for these ACS45's almost 3 years ago. 😛

I have the ATP3s and am very happy with them. The biggest disadvantages? They don't play loud and they don't have a headphone jack. But they have a natural balanced sound (for a computer speaker). Treble is a little rolled off, but correctable and it isn't harsh. Bass is articulate and not boomy. Midrange is rather clear, but is affected by the surface the speakers lie on. I enjoy the fact that they do not take up much space, aside from the subwoofer that gets stashed on the floor.

I guess it would be too much to ask if anyone knew how these compared to the ACS-48, since I just found a vendor with those in stock 😀 but for about $40 more

Another vote for the ATP3's. I got a set 2 months ago and I think they are great. For me at least, they were a big step up from the Yamaha YST-10's I was using.

Going from acs 45's to atp3's isn't much of an upgrade.

If you want a step up in sound, you'll need to move up a price level.

The Acs-48's are amazing speakers. Loud + clear. only lacking a headphone jack.
