OK, so our marketing guy calls Altavista cuz we want some Adwords in there for our homepage. There was a clause about "RichMedia" (never heard of it before) so we thought we might call Altavista to ask what RichMedia is. Well the guy was also swamped with that question and he said: "Hhhhmm, don't know what RichMedia is... Let me check Google real quick" lol

Would you then say "let me check google real quick?" But for all you nitpickers, of course, google could index their intranet.

FAST (aka alltheweb.com) is still doing well. I actually use it from time to time as they give up high quality results on par with Google. But I've actually been using Yahoo the most lately as I find the design of their results page better than Google's. It's much easier to quickly scan through.

FAST was recently bought out by Overture. Overture also bought AltaVista during the same week. Both are currently still operating as they were before, but I imagine at some point Overture will try to incorporate FAST's technology into AltaVista to try and revive the AltaVista brand. FAST really does have a great search engine. So many people are just so in love with Google that they aren't aware other search engines have come a long way since the Google explosion revolutionized how sites are ranked.
