What a rip :)

Thank you for playing the AltaVista Daily Instant Win game, and for contacting us about your concerns. Over the Fourth of July weekend, we experienced some technical difficulties. While our system did correctly select legitimate daily winners, it also incorrectly informed many other Members that they were Instant Winners. Because your Instant Win notification was one of these errors, your account will not be credited with a 500,000-Points award.

Please note that in accordance with the rules of the Instant Win game, a Member is eligible to play the game once per day by clicking the link to the game page one time only.

We appreciate your understanding in this matter, and have deposited 2,000 bonus Points in your AltaVista Rewards account to make up for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We?ve also deposited a second 1,000 Point bonus in appreciation of your help in notifying us of the problem. You can view your account balance by visiting the Member Center at http://shopping.altavista.com/user/login.sdc.

Your satisfaction is important to us, and we sincerely hope you will continue to take advantage of the many benefits of AltaVista membership, including Web-wide shopping, fantastic rewards, and exceptional customer service.

Our Daily Instant Win game is now functioning properly, so please stop by
http://shopping.altavista.com/rewards/ssiw.sdc for your chance to win.

Sincerely,

The AltaVista Team

What a ripoff, they sent me a letter saying I get 1000 points only. And I did not reload the page, I showed up as a winner the first click.

I didn't 'deceitfully win'. On the 4th I signed on and got the winner message on my 1st click. Got the same lame email as Rainguy. I would agree that if you kept on clicking until you got the winner message it's deceitful and you should be more than satisfied with the 3K, but if you got it on the 1st click, they should honor their commitment to give 500K points. The fact that they had a programming problem in their code is their fault. They notified people that they won, now they are trying to back out of the commitments that they gave over the holiday. What if you bought a new car, a day later the transmission died? If the car company told you 'We made a mistake in our design so we're only giving you $100 towards a repair job' would you accept it? I don't think so. AltaVista should suck it up and give the points to everyone who got a winner notification on the 1st click. Anything else is pretty lame on their part. What a bunch of weasles.

I know this is OT- but do we need to check back everyday to win? Or do they randomly draw regardless of whether you signed in that day or not?

Just to let you know I also won the first time with my wife's account. That is the response to the e-mail on her account. My account did take 5 trys and I did not e-mail them about it and don't expect anything for that.

I'm not sure if I should be happy for what I got or ask for more points - I hate it when techies mess up especially when you're part of the techie clan

I got the same message, but I could care less now because I won legitimately today!!! I was going on to check my point status to see whether or not they would ever update it and decided to give the 500,000 points an extra try, and won. what a deal!

AtomSmasher, calm down.. it is legal and understandable for what they have decided... I hope you watch your back so you never make a mistake in life. Someday you could be on the other side. Imagine if the company did honor this, do you realize the effects it would have? Like the recent Ubid PC mistake this would ruin and most likely bankrupt these companies if they chose to honor... That would cause thousands of people to lose their jobs... and thousands of people (family) would be in bad shape. Just so a few people could have a little extra dough? Do some real work and earn what you get and don't take advantage of others' mistakes. You can always get on welfare if that is your style.

(I don't have time now to say what is wrong with your choice of analogies... maybe someone else here will help)
