K, as i think i mentioned somewhere in this thread before, most likely, the damn 133 divider is actually changing more than just teh standard CAS - TRCD - TRP - TRAS timings.

It is likely actually messing with other timings that may not even be shown in the bios.

I'd recommend you get A64 Tweaker & start learning about the other timings you can set with RAM, & yes, there are a ton of other settings.

Unfortunately, it's not terribly easy to know which other timings could be affecting things, so you really have to research to find out what each one does.
XtremeSystems.org guys know alot more on the tons of RAM timings & what ones could be causing issues.

Aight, here's screenie of some appz that show my RAM timings, just as an example.

The problem is, who knows what setting could be causing the issue...
I'm sure an absolute guru could figure it out, but i have no idea.

I do have a strong suspicion that the issue is due to the fact that one of those "lesser-known" timings is being auto set in a manner that's giving you the issues.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will need to go to extremesystems and see all the timing settings for my ram and set it appropriately. I will get back to you all once I am back in front of this system this weekend.

OK, just a FYI that my computer boots fine at the 100mhz and 166mhz dividers (HTT up to 290 on stock volts and still testing).

And I tried some custom timings and it simply will not post at the 133 divider. 166 seems to be too unstable, at least it was at 3-3-3-8.

HELP!

Sucky.

I'd start looking for a new mobo or new RAM to accomdate the settings/dividers you want to use.

Sucks though since I JUST bought the RAM. It is 2 1gb sticks of OCZ DDR400 memory rated to run at 2-3-2-5. If the 133 divider would work, everything would be just fine.

BUT A GREAT UPDATE: I tried reloading the modded bios from Murdok, and the 150mhz divider works. It is screwy in the bios, but CPU-Z shows my memory running at the 150mhz divider (289*.75=216.75mhz). So the memory is at 216.75mhz, passed memtest86 in test 5 and 6 at 2.5-3-3-5.
That seems pretty good to me...

So currently I am at:
289*9=2.6ghz on the processor (cpu-z says at 1.4v, set it at 1.425 in the bios.
216.75 2.5-3-3-5 on the memory.

Not bad. I guess I could try to go higher on the processor, but I am not so sure it is worth raising my voltage up more for an extra 100mhz.

Hey I got a question for the OP:

Is the ram you have the OCZ Platinum PC-4000? 2x1gb? Or is it the PC-3200?

I can tell y ou that the PC-4000 should run at 3-3-2-8 @ DDR500. If not, tell OCZ and get new sticks, they will let yo udo that. I returned my VX once simply because it failed to run at 2-2-2-5 @ 250mhz.

Memory is regulated by the CPU, and so if a divider fails, this is due to the CPU, usually not the RAM. If you don't use a 133 divider, and drop your HTT down to a very low speed, then you should be able to run at that frequency smoothly, meaning the RAM can run at that frequency, but your CPU hates the divider. I have seen many cases of 3700+s failing at 11x divider, (250 x 11), but running solid at 275 x 10 (2.75ghz each).

Wow, come on AT. I would expect better technical input from you all.

OP: I advise you to take a visit to XtremeSystems. Those guys will help you max out your OCs anytime. When I deal wtih OCs, I go there =P

BTW, what stepping do you have for your 165?

I have a Abit AN8-Sli board and I could not get the 266 memory divider to work on my computer either. The 333 worked and the 200 worked. I am running my Opteron 146 @ 2.6 MHz and my ram was running at 217 MHz for Corsair Value select.

On another forum someone said to set the dram setting to SPD, when I did this it set my dram speed to DDR 400 and also changed all of my other settings for my ram from auto and filled in all of the timings. I then changed from SPD to Manual and changed to DDR 266 and it would also change my timings automatically. At this point I saved it to my bios and rebooted and it booted into Windows fine.

At this point I went back into my bios and I was able to increase my HTT to 300 and this increased my ram to 200 MHz and I was able to boot into Windows.

DLeRium: Thanks for the response. My stepping is ccbwe 0547tpmw and I am running PC3200 RAM. Thanks for the input on the multiplier. The problem I have is that my opteron runs default at the 9x multiplier. Therefore, if I drop it to 8x, I would need to get the HTT up to 325, which I am not sure if my board will handle that or not. Regardless, it wouldn't get me a higher overclock than I have now and I would definitely have issues with the memory divider (150mhz divider would make the RAM unstable and 133mhz just is a PITA).

diamondback: I did try auto timings, which were not always giving me stable results.

I will certainly look at talking to the xtremesystems guys and see what can happen, but I can't complain at where I am now. If only SuperPi wasn't a requirement; I can boot to Windows at a much higher rate, but I want the stability. ;)
