Well from what i know, Comcast who actually really runs@home, is trying to set up it's servers and all but think they won't be up in time.

I am on Comcast@home in Michigan and I was just down for 4 hours. Back now as it was just a "normal" outage.

Been down since Saturday morning here in Dallas. Were on a ATT broadband network and they said they would be switching us over. Tried renewing my ip address all day today and finally tonight I'm on a new IP on AT&T's network. Seems just as fast as before. So everyone in Dallas just release and renew your IP and you should be up and running. Atleast in our area.

Edit: I'm getting 1200/128 on DSLreports which is around what I had before. I'm happy.

Here in Vancouver Canada we used to be on Rogers@Home, a partnership between Rogers Cable and @Home. But Shaw cable took over a while ago and we've never had a any down time:)

Have had service here since this morning. It was on and off around 11pm-1pm but ever since then it has been fine. Have been two different IPs already! This is definitely something new.

The only moody thing right now is my router, which is really being a pain in the @$$. (Netgear RT314) It can't find the DNS servers here and there for the most it has been working. Once it even just didn't connect to any new sites. So if I were to disconnect from AIM and re-connect it was a no go.

Now Betanews was talking about a rogue configurator file and an official configurator file. I have yet to see both.

It looks like Comcast (and possibly Cox and Insight) is going to sign a short-term contract with @Home. Frankly, if I didn't hear the news about this whole @Home debacle, I would never have thought anything was wrong. My first hasn't hiccuped once since Friday, no complaints of course.

It's AMAZING that @home has gone bankrupt.. This is ONLY a short term problem.. long run they are EXTREMELY profitable, and thats only using the $8 per subscriber fees they are getting now! (Think about what a company-owned solution, like Charter Pipeline, could bring in, where the full $40 goes to the company?) Look at the numbers (from quote.yahoo.com):
Operating Costs
(3 mo)$480,000 (9 mo)$1,880,000
Thats about $2.5 MILLION A YEAR IN OPERATING COSTS! They have over 4,000,000 subscribers, with 9,000 more signing up each week! The new customers ALONE will pay for operating costs for ALL users! They are raking in $32 million per month or $384 million a year! And to think that is about what AT&T is offering to BUY them for!? WHAT A STEAL!! As soon as all the debt is paid off profits will just flow in to whoever owns this! And if AT&T has its way, it won't even have to pay for the initial cost of BUILDING the network! It will just screw the bondholders out through this "bankruptcy" trick and get them to pay for it!

It's AMAZING this company ever got close to bankruptcy. True, they lost money last year, but that's because the president and his cronies decided to make the stupid mistake of making Excite@home all this other stuff *BESIDES* being a broadband company (Greeting cards, content, etc.) They just sold all this stuff and should be profitable in a year or so, if you look at the numbers. The thing I don't understand is this: The judge allowed @home to terminate the contracts "in order to provide better negotiating for @home" First of all, if @home turns off the tap on broadband for a cable company's customers, that will be completely intolerable and the cable firms will start to build their own network, leaving @home's future as NILCH. Second, many cable firms already have alternate means in case @home dies (see what Charter and AT&T did) and so when @home shut off, they completely LEFT @home, so they no longer get any money from this huge customer base! How is THAT supposed to make @home's bondholders more money?! It all makes NO SENSE. Unless you believe AT&T engineered the thing to get an awesome broadband network for pennies on the dollar. That's the only thing this finance major can come up with...

On Comcast's website today......

On 12/3/01, Comcast and a group of other broadband service providers reached a definitive agreement with Excite@Home that ensures the uninterrupted continuation of high-speed service for Comcast @Home customers.

Comcast has reached an agreement with Excite@Home, pending approval from the Bankruptcy Court, that provides its customers with uninterrupted high-speed Internet service. Comcast's first priority is to provide you with reliable and high-quality service. This agreement also will ensure a smooth transition from Comcast @Home to an improved, all-Comcast managed Internet service in the weeks ahead.

Comcast High-Speed Internet will provide customers with the high-speed, always-on connection our customers have come to enjoy. This new Comcast service will also offer improved reliability, customer support, and features, such as "e-mail from anywhere" with web-based e-mail and an innovative storage solution for MP3s and photos.

Customers will be provided with notification and instructions on how to convert their account to Comcast High-Speed Internet before we introduce service in each area. In addition, Comcast will continue to provide regular updates on our toll-free hotline at 1-888-433-6963, through your @Home e-mail account and on this website.

some good/bad news: 1. bad news: i went to call att to ask for some discounts and sstuff that bikeaddict got, but i got nothing, he says you have to have signed up within30 days to take advantage of a promotion that comes up, but the good news is, after waiting 1 hour on the phone the att customer service told me that what he hears is that the 1.5 mbps cap will be bumped up will be removed when ATT finishes swtiching everyone/ YA

You know what would REALLY be good news? HOW ABOUT IF THEY ACTUALLY GOT MY SERVICE BACK UP? The local paper says it will be several WEEKS till they get service back up where I live. What kind of BS is this? I mean even YESTERDAY MORNING they said they had 750,000 of their 850,000 users migrated! AND THEY STILL DONT HAVE ME DONE! They haven't even sent me a cd with dial up access like they said they would. And as for the news about them lifting the cap, I am certain that is bs, or perhaps misinterpreted. What ATT is going to be doing soon is launching tiered service ie. you CAN get the cap lifted higher BUT you will have to pay more money. I believe I read about that on cnet somewhere.

This is one customer that will be leaving cable for DSL fairly soon....
