I've been wearing some New Balance 475s for about a year now and love them. But the tread has completely worn off, causing to slip and fall when it rained here about two weeks ago.
So I'm looking for some new shoes / light hiking boots that will hold up to the abuse I put them through.
Anyone have any favorites or suggestions?

I guess I'm leaning more towards the tennis shoe equivalent. I like a shoe that is multipurpose. Something I can wear day to day but be able to hike on the weekends in.
In general I don't like having more than three pairs of shoes, one for everything, one for dress and a pair of sandals.

So I went by REI on my lunch break and tried on the two pairs you suggested. Both ended up being really tight in the toe box and a larger size was to loose on my foot to be comfortable. :\
I also tried on a couple of pairs of Keens, they were really comfortable but I was reading reviews that they don't last longer than 6 months.
I ran out of time to try on others before needing to get back to work. I may go by there again after work or tomorrow to try on others.

I might wait until the weekend and head to the NewBalance store that is about 20 minutes away to check out the boots shortylickens recommended.
 
You might try some Vasque models, or see if you can find a Red Wing store; they specialize in both sport and work boots.

Remember to price check with Amazon. I could have saved my mom thousands of dollars over the years if she would just listen to me and price check.

Mine have some wear from slipping them on and off. But they are otherwise in good condition, and I wear those shoes everywhere outside work. My Keens are everything from my treadmill shoe to my fishing shoes.

Best pair of light hikers I've tried. The sole on my first pair wore out after about a year of daily wear plus rock trails and bush whacking on desert mountains. I still use them for daily wear as the uppers are in good shape. I'm on my second pair for hiking and they are great, lots of ankle support but very light.
