Grainbelt Premium.

Any of the Leinenkugel's variations. BerryWeis and HoneyWeis are great so is Summer Shandy.

I like Yuengling Lager for cheap (but good) and Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat, which cost about $9 a 6 pack where I live.

Some reasonable recommendations so far. I'd say go to a bar or restaurant or brewpub in your area that does beer tastings and try a bunch of different brews to see what styles you like, then work from there.

Black Butte Porter, Newcastle Brown Ale, Guinness.

Just a warning OP... Guinness is heavy as hell. It's like a loaf of bread in a bottle, and while delicious, can completely fill you up.
No it isn't. Guinness has less calories and carbohydrates than a regular old Budweiser. The nitrogen may make you think it's heavier since it's a little thicker feeling on the tongue, but the old "pint of bread" thing is BS.

Yeah, well here liquor store = alcohol store. :)

Some people love IPAs... the hoppier the better. That's not me. They tend to be not just strong and heavy like Guinness, but very sharply bitter and tangy. Many of them smell and taste like liquid pine needles. No thank you. I'm fine with stouts and brown ales, and lagers of course, but pale ales just don't do it for me.

Newcastle is one of my favorites. I also like Harp, Leinenkugel's, Grain Belt, and... well I dunno, that's all I can think of for now but put a lager or ale in front of me and I'll probably be happy!

Go on a site like Ratebeer or Beer Advocate and look at some of the top rated beers. Personally, I like a lot of different beers, but there are many, many different styles and you're not going to like them all. Some people may love a nice hoppy IPA, but be disgusted by a Flemish sour. Others may enjoy a pale lager but be repulsed by an Imperial Russian stout. It all comes down to finding a particular type of beer you enjoy, and the best way to do that is through experimentation. But here's some of my personal faves:

Belgian Trappist ales: Everyone loves Belgians. They're delicious, an excellent place to start your beer journey. The biggest downside is that they are expensive, but since you're not drinking to get drunk, it shouldn't matter.
Rochefort 10
Chimay Blue (but all Chimays are good)
La Fin du Monde
Westmalle

Imperial Stouts: I love 'em. Thick, dark, complex, and basically like drinking a glass of crude oil, a good Imperial Russian Stout is absolutely magical. It's like chocolate milk for grown-ups.
Stone Imperial Russian Stout
Rogue Imperial Stout
Deschutes The Abyss
Alesmith Speedway Stout
Three Floyds Dark Lord Imperial Russian Stout

Stouts: Not quite as thick or as high an alcohol content as the Imperial Stouts, but delicious, with rich chocolate notes.
Rogue Shakespeare Stout
Rogue Chocolate Stout
Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout

Porters: Similar to stouts, dark, rich, chocolatey and malty. If you don't like dark beers, porters won't be your beer of choice.
Stone Smoked Porter
Deschutes Black Butte Porter
Ø Porter
Fullers London Porter

Hefeweizen: A wheat beer, hefeweizens are light, yellow in color, and often taste somewhat "bready." American hefeweizens are typically served with a slice of lemon, though this is not the traditional German preparation.
Weihenstephaner
Franziskaner
Widmer Hefeweizen (a local favorite in Portland)

India Pale Ale (IPA): Extremely hoppy and bitter, IPAs are definitely an acquired taste, but their complexity is rewarding to seasoned beer drinkers.
Alesmith IPA
Stone IPA
Stone Ruination IPA
Lagunitas IPA
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA

Ales: There are dozens of different categories of ales (everything mentioned above is an ale), but I'm throwing a few random ales in here without making broad categories for them.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Rogue Dead Guy Ale
Stone Arrogant Bastard
Stone Double Bastard
Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar (this one goes great with vanilla ice cream for a beer float)

Pilseners/Lagers: The most common beers (Budweiser, Miller, Coors, PBR, etc.) are all lagers. Lagers are generally far less complex than ales, and thus shunned by the craft beer connoisseurs, but there are examples of good lagers out there.
Sierra Nevada Pilsener
Spaten Optimator
Full Sail LTD
Sam Adams Boston Lager

This should get you started. Enjoy.

I second the Paulaner recommendation. I like their hefeweizens and they have a seasonal Oktoberfest brew that is really good.

Look for beers from New Belgium. Fat Tire is my favorite, but 1554, Blue Paddle, and Sunshine Wheat are also worth trying.

I am a big fan of Boddington's Pub Ale. It's creamy and smooth and comes in a yellow can. :)

Just go to the liquor store and tell the guy behind the counter, "what is the most stout fucking thing you have?"

Haha. I never said I couldn't hold the other stuff. I've experimented. Did a shot of Vodka and one of gin (different nights) to try them out. Got em down with a straight face and not much in the way of effects. I like beer better.

If you're on the cheap with some buddies, High Life and Keystone Light are good cheap beers. I like them better than Bud/Coors. Many people buy Natural Light and that's a decent cheap alternative as well but those are my two extremely cheap favorites.

That's your problem; Clear liquor sucks ;^)

Do yourself a favor and get a bottle of Black Bush Irish whiskey. If you hve taste buds, you'll like it.

And another vote for Newcastle.

Also:

Smithwick's
Kilkenny
McEwan's Scotch Ale
any Unibroue (La Fin du Monde; Don De Dieu, Trois Pistoles etc.)

If you can get Canadian beer, Sleeman's Honey Brown and Cream Ale are solid - those are what I started with years ago.

Experimented, by having a shot of vodka and shot of gin? Effects... if they contained alcohol they were equal to a can of beer at once each.

Naw, but Guinness is definitely good (I ain't a big dark beer drinker at all, either), Killian's, Oberon (might be Michigan-area only) are good. Guess I don't have many suggestions besides major domestic brews.

Like I said, I fail to see the point in getting tipsy or drunk, so I guess I'll never see my true limits. But I'm confident on that front. :)
