Alright AT, reccomend me some good beer

I just turned 21 last November, and being the law-abiding person that I am I'm still something a noob when it comes to alcohol. I like beer and wine more than hard liquor/vodka.

Just looking for a 6 pack of something good that I can keep in my dorm fridge (being 21, I am allowed to keep alcohol in my room) for the end of a hard week/if someone comes over. I'm going for quality over quantity here. So far all I've tried is Blue Moon and Keystone Lite, and much prefer the former.

Due to my limited drinking (I don't see the point in getting tipsy or drunk), price isn't really an object outside of extremes.

Update: Had some people coming over, so I needed something fast. Given the recommendations for Guinness, I picked up a six pack of Guinness extra stout. Good stuff. I'm going to keep sampling though. 😀
 
Get a variety pack of Sam Adams if you can find it in your local places. They have quite a few solid brews IMO so you can find the one you like best.
 
Dogfish Head 60 min IPA. Good quality beer to start on. It's cheaper than the 90 minute, but it's still pretty good. I would also suggest rouge chocolate stout if you can afford it, it's not too heavy and complex but very good for a beginner.

Just a warning OP... Guinness is heavy as hell. It's like a loaf of bread in a bottle, and while delicious, can completely fill you up.
 
Guinness was the first beer I truly enjoyed. I grew to like other beers over time, but Guinness was my favorite. Pick up a bottle of Black Bush Irish whiskey also. If you don't like that, you don't like whiskey.

Stone Brewing just released their annual batch of Imperial Russian Stout (IRS) last Monday...you should be able to find it in your nicer stores. It's delicious, I've gone through 3 bottles already, at $6.xx a pop.
 
Leinenkugel sunset wheat would be one of my personal favorites for an easy drinking beer to sit back and enjoy. Also try Magic Hat circus boy beer.

edit: Both can be had for around $7-8 too so it wouldn't hurt to give both a shot!

My advice is (and has been for a while) -- go to the best local liquor store and do a "make your own six pack" (most let you do that) -- and pick a six pack of nothing but beers you haven't tried before. Repeat for as long as you can find new beers. It'll always be a new experience, but if it's bad, you're only in for one. You already know the kind of beers to avoid, so keep an open mind. Try everything from Imperial stouts to IPAs. 🙂
 
keep in mind a lot of the beers people have been suggesting are IPAs and Stouts, which can be pretty full bodied and really strong. That might not appeal to everyone, especially beginning beer drinkers.

Noted, but I like to dive right in. I've eaten raw jalapeños in 2-3 bites. How bad can this stuff be? 😀
 
Most of the ones, except for Guinness, Newcastle, Sam Adams, and PBR I've never seen at a regular supermarket/store. Seems like you guys need to recommend more regular stuff that most stores would carry. All that smaller stuff, you have to get at specialty stores.

Higher end grocery stores like Whole Foods or QFC usually have a better selection of beers.

No worries there. I'm in a college town with a car. I have easy (<=5 min by car) access to 8 different liquor stores according to google maps, 3 within walking distance of my dorm. In addition to supermarkets and such.
 
the liquor stores here sell liquor, not beer. So "beer that can be found at any liquor store" = none. 😛
